@stillherestilllife is back! It's been so exciting to see a new still life prompt from them, as well as all the incredible interpretations from artists!

I highly recommend trying it out if you're looking for a low-stakes way to get creativity flowing.

For me, these prompts have been a fun way to use art supplies I'm not used to. I've been having a lot of fun with the color combos these colored pencils create!

I finally made the time to try a @roomportraitclub portrait!

I've been experimenting with using different mediums, adjusting my usual process to accommodate the types of marks and colors that can be made. In this case - a layer of marker followed by colored pencils.

I think my favorite part is the light and shadow on the green glass vase, what about you?

Move and Be Moved: Illustration For Soulage - a yoga and movement studio in Mt Vernon.

I was tasked with creating an image that encompassed the multi-dimensional nature of Soulage and the activities hosted there. The team at Soulage suggested using an old painting of mine as a conceptual starting point. They also wanted to make sure that elements in the piece could work as standalone images for marketing and merchandise.

Swipe to see details and variations. This one is very special to me because it is stylistically much closer to the art I create for myself and I felt lucky to have the opportunity to make this piece a reality.

Catalog Coffee Wallpaper pt 2.

Presenting the long awaited post highlighting the second part of my @catalogcoffeebmore wallpaper vignettes! Catalog has been open for a few months now and I've enjoyed stopping in for Espresso Tonics (absolutely my favorite drink on the menu) while taking in the all the hard work from @reidycreative @eastwingarchitects and the rest of the team who made this space possible. Hopefully you've had a chance to visit for coffee and a brekkie sando.

I've also included the original sketch of the Bromo Tower - we loved this one so much that it helped to set the tone and style for the rest of the illustrations. It gave me the idea to carry the cloud, smoke, and steam motif through the rest of the images. Also included is a close-up of the tiny Toynbee tile I snuck in. It's so small I don't think anyone would pick up on it without seeing this. There is still one in Hampden - have you found it?

Spring has Sprung! The garden is bursting with daffodils, and my lone hellebore is absolutely thriving this year. I hope you are as excited for the new season as I am!

It felt good to sit down and draw this bouquet - it'd been a while since I'd had the chance to draw from observation. I'm not sure how I landed on this wild color palette, but I love the way the yellowy-green and blue work together. Definitely a color combo to remember for the future.

Catalog Coffee Wallpaper pt. 1
Illustrations by me, layout and printing by @flavorpaper

When @chefshermbmore reached out to me about creating a Baltimore-themed toile wallpaper for a new coffee shop he was developing, I didn't totally know what to expect. I was honored to be the one to tackle this project and am so proud of the results!

How do you encapsulate Baltimore into a few small illustrations? The short answer is: It's impossible. This city has so much life, diversity, energy, and nuance that it would be a disservice to say that these images even begin to capture it. I consider this my best attempt at writing a love letter to the city I've called home for my entire adult life. I'll have been here 20 years next year (!)

We started with a huge list of places, people, and events that made us think of Baltimore. From there I narrowed it down based on what made sense both compositionally and in relation to each other. Dave is a huge sports fan, so of course that featured heavily. Because the cafe is located in Hampden, it made sense to keep some of the details local to the neighborhood - The Hampden branch of the Enoch Pratt, the Rowhomes based on the ones on Roland Ave around the corner from Catalog. I included a few fun easter eggs where I could. See anything that looks familiar?

(Wallpaper photo by @reidycreative via the @catalogcoffeebmore IG because somehow I didn't get a single good photo of it in person!)

Last spring, I had the pleasure of being approached by @pmavelo and @baltimorebicycleworksracing to design and illustrate a poster for the 2023 Flower Mart Crit. The inspiration for the design was based on a mock flyer I had created for fun the previous year. It was a joy to have the opportunity to refine and enhance the concept, giving it a bit of a makeover for the 2023 race.

Despite the unfortunate cancellation of the race days before it was set to happen, I'm still quite in love with the poster! Lemon sticks are such a fun and iconic piece of Baltimore and I can't help but to smile any time I see reference to them.

Biking in Baltimore - a privately commissioned 18x24 poster.

This was an incredibly fun project that came to me by way of the stickers I created for @velo_orange . The project started off as a Baltimore version of a classic Tour de France poster but after a couple rounds of sketches and discussion it became more like a love letter to cycling in the city. I've had a few versions of this image kicking around in my head for a few years now, and it was such a joy to be able to bring it to life for someone who would appreciate it as much as I do.

I'm so grateful to Joseph and his family for trusting me with this project! taken in Baltimore, Maryland by @katehaberer

The right place at the right time 🌈

@cutlassvelo and I got married on 6.24.23. It was a beautiful celebration of joy and friendship and was a truly homegrown event.

@mckenzie.elizabeth.photo took so many amazing photos of our day and I'm finding it nearly impossible to distill them down into this small overview of the evening. Thank you to all of our friends and family for coming and celebrating with us 🌈🌈🌈 by @katehaberer

Better late than never, so here's some Christmas in late July (just in time for another heat wave) ☃️

I created this poster and accompanying marketing material for the @stationnorth
Annual Holiday Market. I had so much fun 😊 incorporating a lot of different skills I'd been working on last year - there was even an animated component to it! I created a reel where the ornament rotated back and forth to reveal some of the additional landmark buildings along North Ave.

I'd been meaning to share this one for ages and I'm extremely proud of it! I'm finally through the stress of planning and putting on a wedding (more on that later) and I'm looking forward to sharing the backlog of work I've been quietly creating in the background. taken in Baltimore, Maryland by @katehaberer

Last month I brought my iPad to the @teammarylandallstars edition of @drsketchysbaltimore

This was my first time trying life drawing in digital format and my first life drawing session since the pandemic started.

Using the iPad was a fascinating tool that made it a lot easier to capture forms quickly and with greater accuracy (Arm too big? Cut + paste + resize) but I think I still prefer the challenge of working with traditional drawing materials *because* it can be less accurate and forgiving. For me learning from mistakes is where the growth comes from!

I'm looking forward to attending a session again in the future and excited to add this digital medium to my drawing toolbox. taken in Baltimore, Maryland by @katehaberer
