Welcome to my rabbit hole into the world of food.

I’ve been diving into sourcing lately, exploring farmers markets, produce stands and restaurant supply stores. Asking strangers on Facebook if I can raid their gardens…

I met Aziz and Ali at a restaurant equipment shop in Cary, who were so kind and helpful while I wandered around like a kid in a candy store. If you love cooking or baking or catering or anything, go there.

I posted in a Wake Forest community group looking for fresh herbs and three different women invited me into their gardens to take what I needed. I’m turning some of them into compound butters to bring back as a thank you.

Then, while welcoming my brother’s new exchange student from Germany, I asked what had surprised her most about America so far.

“The grocery stores. They’re huge.”

Whether that was wow, amazing or what the hell is with all this junk food remains unclear.

But it stuck with me.

Especially with what feels like a new produce recall every five minutes, I’ve been thinking a lot more about how good it feels to know where my food actually came from. Who grew it. Who handled it. Who made it. And how much gets lost when everything gets bigger and farther away from the people behind it.

So I’ve been trying to go the other direction.

Smaller. Closer. Local growers, makers, markets, niche little shops, conversations with strangers. Learning as I go.

Turns out I might love everything around food just as much as I love cooking it.

Anyway, that’s kind of what Kindr Kitchen is becoming.

No grand launch speech. Just making, hopefully, good food, meeting good people, and seeing where it goes. 🌿

Wandered into Cedar Creek Gallery during a glassblowing demonstration and stayed, completely spellbound, fixating on fire, movement, rhythm, urgency…. Everyone working in sync like a choreographed dance, shaping something delicate from something so dangerous.

These photos follow a “throw and blow” process, where a potter throws a mold for the glass, making forms feel a little more organic, a little more alive.

The kind of place that reminds me how much beauty lives in process, and I’m so thankful it exists.

Last week, I co hosted my first community event three years. I am grateful that I have the capacity again to pour into my community again.

Thank you @katelyn.clix for helping me produce this event 🙏🏾

Hearing everyone that came was able to leave learning something new made my day and made me realize that we need to make capacity to pass the knowledge we know now down so we can make more space to learn new things.

Thank you to all the mentors who donated their time to reviewing portfolios for four hours on a Sunday 🙏🏾🔥

Thank you @prophotodc and @topochicousa for sponsoring my first community event, and thank you @thevillage.dc for having us #TCsLastSon 🫡❤️

📷: @workbychancezinn cover photo and @katelyn.clix took the rest.

Timelapse video was shot by @g2esquire @g2vsthedistrict 🔥
