What. A. Day. Another incredible day at @affordableartfairau Melbourne and another bunch of beautiful works finding their people. Seeing these pieces leave the stand with collectors who genuinely LOVE them has been one of the absolute highlights of the fair. A huge thank you to everyone who came by today — whether you bought a work, came back for a second look, discovered one of our artists for the first time or simply stopped for a chat. The energy around the Good Work Gallery stand has been so bloody good. And somehow… THERE’S ONLY ONE DAY LEFT! So, if there’s a piece you’ve been thinking about, tomorrow is the day to come back and make it yours. We’ve had works finding homes right across the weekend and we’d hate for you to come back for that one only to find a little red dot beside it. 🔴 📍 Good Work Gallery — Stand E6 Affordable Art Fair Melbourne Royal Exhibition Building, Carlton FINAL DAY — Sunday 30 August 10am–5pm 🎟️ NEED A FREE DAY PASS? Slide into our DMs or leave a comment below and we’ll send you some free tickets for tomorrow! 29.08.2026 🎨 I was meant to attend the opening of the @affordableartfairau but ended up rolling knitting needles down the stairs with my nephew instead, as one does. So it was great to finally get there again for my second year. Here are some of my favourites! Invite | I forget who it was, but thankyou to the kind artist/gallery who gifted me tickets 🥰

We rehung our birthday show this week, so here is a fresh walk through of both rooms. We’ve got a lovely mix of work throughout the gallery. Our artists work across such different sizes and styles, and many do commissions too. So if something catches your eye, please don’t hesitate to reach out here or via email at hello@sydneyroadgallery.com.

Meet the six judges for Maker of the Year Awards, presented by Hare & Forbes. In no particular order, here is the fourth: Kate Stehr is an Australian sculptor who works primarily in wood and draws on her own firsthand research and experience to produce a diverse range of highly original works. She has degrees in fine art, education and creative art research and teaches Visual Arts at university. Kate has exhibited her award-winning sculptures widely and undertaken international residencies. She says, ‘My approach has always been “thinking through making”. The act of making often reveals solutions and new directions. I’m also interested in challenging the idea that people are either “good” or “bad” at art. Like any skill, it develops through practice.’ Kate lives in the Illawarra, NSW and is profiled in the current issue of Australian Wood Review. ‘As a judge I will be looking for innovative use of the chosen timbers, creativity and individuality, and resolution of construction. I believe that successful works will evidence outstanding craftsmanship over showy finish.’ – Kate Stehr @katestehr Photo: Damien Cadwallen Maker of the Year is Wood Review’s annual showcase for fine woodworking and wood art. The competition is open to woodworkers all over the world – amateur, pro and student. Entry is via www.makeroftheyear.com.au The Top 100 shortlisted entries will feature in the December issue of Australian Wood Review. Award winners will be announced in this edition and here at www.woodreview.com.au In 2026, the $20,000+ prize pool includes $11,500 in cash awards. @machineryhouseau @ahec_anz @felderaustralia @whittle_waxes @carbitool @tormek_sharpening #woodreview #moty2026 #woodart #woodworking #furnituremaker

It was a bustling Saturday afternoon at the old Seascape Café, and Kate was getting as hot under the collar as the scorching November day outside while waiting for her blind date. 15 minutes and not even a message, Kate decided it was time to call this one quits and was just getting up to leave when a waitress said, “Wait, you were waiting for someone right? I know where he is!” On the other side of the café, Damien was contemplating leaving when suddenly an attractive blonde sat down next to him and said, “So have you been waiting long?” “Yeah,” Damien replied. “Yeah me too… right over there,” said Kate. Over coffee and cake (because Kate didn’t want to commit to a full meal), the conversation and laughter flowed, and a week later they found themselves sharing tapas at Café La Playa. There was almost another misfire at their next date when once again Kate thought Damien was late waiting outside the Thai restaurant… when he was actually inside the whole time. …and so after a couple of dud starts, we really had to take a moment to congratulate the two of them on making it to the platform that day at relatively the same time! Fast forward a year and today we’re celebrating the first anniversary of Mr & Mrs Cadwallen. Congrats lovebirds — I’m still completely head over heels for the vibe of your wedding and hope every day since has been filled with just as much love and laughter xxx Such an awesome day at the always gorgeous @wildwoodkangaroovalley, with @wattlewood_floral bringing the ceremony space to life, the dream team of @makeupbymegan and @hairbymichelleboicheski making sure Kate was looking absolutely radiant, and always a joy hanging out with @somethingswildweddings xx Loved working alongside the legends keeping the good vibes flowing with incredible live music from @kalistajadee, then @hungrymonkeyofficial bringing the deliciousness through the night, plus a dance floor expertly steered by @nanabladedj xx #curatoroflovestories #southcoastcelebrant #wildwoodkangaroovalley #modernceremony #anniversarylove
