Melissa Auf der Maur: MY ’90S ROCK PHOTOGRAPHS⁣
⁣
Book design by Alina Skyson and Sara Wong for the Art Gallery of Ontario and DelMonico Books.⁣
⁣
Earlier this year, we had the opportunity to work closely with Melissa Auf der Maur and the AGO team during a three-day, in-person workshop, where we sequenced the photographs and developed the book’s design in real time.⁣
⁣
With the help of William Sabourin (Atlas Documentation), we photographed portions of the completed book at Les Foufounes Électriques in Montreal, where Melissa first met Billy Corgan in 1991.⁣
⁣
Many thanks to Jim Shedden and Sophie Hackett for inviting us to be part of this memorable project.⁣

MUSEUM x BOOK UNVEILED

PHOTOGRAPHY: My first love, BUT as most of you know, i was hijacked by a rock band and took a LONG WILD detour, for a couple decades on the road, devoted to the POWER OF MUSIC. Now a quarter century later, its time to purge, reflect and share.

MY 90s Rock photographs exhibit and book, were unveiled this month, and pull from my archive of over 10,000 photographic negatives. This multimedia memoir project, is part of our collective memory, of what would become our last analog decade. This project is a form of collective mourning of what was lost, but also an opportunity to reclaim and explore a longing for the old / timeless ways we lived, and decide what we want to get back.
Thx to @agotoronto @delmonico_books @artbook who have offered the DREAM PLATFORM to REFLECT and SHARE my human experience.

Sharing is Caring ….

Exhibit is up in Toronto until June 2027.
Book is available now online and in local bookstores near you.
Soundtrack to the exhibit, BASS WOMB ROOM: My ‘90s 4-Track Demos x Field Recordings, is yours for streaming, and on cassette (and vinyl coming soon!). Central mission statement to the share and the care, is EVEN THE GOOD GIRLS WILL CRY: My ‘90s Rock Memoir — available at book shops, libraries and audiobook.

Special thanks to my co-curators Sophie Hackett @hackettse Jim Shedden @jimshedden and archivist Katherine Driscoll @kathydisco and exhibition manager Chloe Wittes @chloeee491 for elevating my PRO-ANALOG HUMAN Advocacy mission this year. Thank you Emilie Hanskamp @emilie.theaux for the museum launch conversation, and to Kelefa Sanneh for the meaningful @newyorkermag piece and conversation @strandbookstore for my NYC book launch - and the 1000+ Toronto art lovers who came to the opening, and 400 New Yorkers who squeezed into the top floor of a book store for this.

Unveiled. Launched. Taking it on the road. Keep eyes peeled for book talks near you …

Nowhere better than in a MUSEUM and BOOK (or a live music show!) to honor REAL LIFE in PERSON, in HAND exchange, connection and inspiration.

Vive L’Art et Merci!

Katherine March Driscoll (@kathydisco) examines the effects of time on the built environment. Photographs of dark windows, windows with cats, a building for rent—each holds a moment still while quietly acknowledging its passing. But where are we? Driscoll’s work is devoid of human presence, yet traces of our lives—and our deaths—permeate each scene, surfacing like memories: details that hover between the mundane and the deeply meaningful.

WILT opens July 25th from 12—6pm

The next Living Room exhibition will take place in a home that Marah and her two children lived during a period of transition.

I had the good fortune of meeting @marahshemesh through our mutual friend @davidmmmtodd while considering alternative exhibition spaces. It felt as though we understood each other immediately. As I was leaving, I mentioned how much I loved the wilted flowers placed throughout the space—how I have always felt people discard their bouquets far too soon. She lit up in agreement—wilting is beautiful!

The next morning, I woke early, energized by an idea: a way to engage with Marah, her home, and its transition into a new chapter through art.

Wilt will open on July 25. We look forward to welcoming you there.
