What do a reality tv housewife, an outdoor advocate, and a US Congressional candidate have in common?

We’re all waiting for YOU to vote in the midterms. 🗳️

And we’re all deeply in love with Utah.
And at least two of us are highly invested in the art of gossip.
But only one of us is running for Congress (and it’s not @whitneywildrose).

I’m casting my ballot for @benmcadamsforcongress this election as an act of investing in my state’s, and my country’s, future. You’ve got two choices folks, and I’m voting for the guy who earned the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters. It’s a no brainer.

Here’s the thing about voting: I do not elect idols, and I do not place politicians on pedestals. (That’s weird, guys.) Does Ben perfectly align with my personal political agenda? Honestly, no—but no elected leader does or ever has. That’s not what I’m looking for when I vote.

I’m seeking the candidate who closest aligns with my values, and who offers me a seat at their table. I vote for the person who demonstrates a willingness to listen to their constituents, a commitment to decency and the rule of law, and after over a decade of working with lawmakers on outdoor policy issues, I’m voting for the person most likely to tell me the hard truths to my face too.

This November, there is no question who I am voting for—and not just because he is willing to film silly little content with a reality TV star and an urban homesteader. I’m voting for Ben McAdams because he went down to Boulder, Utah, took time to speak with my friend @blake_spalding, and told her he would act to protect Grand Staircase Escalante. I’m voting for Ben McAdams because he made a promise to my friend, and I can’t wait to hold him accountable to making it happen.

BALLOTS DROP IN UTAH STARTING OCTOBER 13TH! LET’S GO!

Can’t think of anything spookier than seeing the landscapes in Bears Ears and Grand Staircase that are no longer protected and now under threat. 😭

Every landscape pictured has been removed from the monument boundaries. (Ironically, except that rock I’m face down on.)

Our public lands belong in public hands.
Public lands hold our future, present, and past.
They are not for sale.
And we must not let them be sold out.

Let’s just look at the numbers folks, the communities out West have spoken loud and clear about how we feel:

🔶 91% of Western voters say existing national monument designations should be left in place.

🔶 74% of Western voters oppose selling some national public lands for oil and gas development.

Our public lands are our common ground—and they are not for sale. Join me and @wildernesssociety in telling the Department of Interior: Public lands are not for sale!

What is up fellow humans? A couple months ago @wildernesssociety asked me if I could make a sticker for them. As a person with a brain who has always lived in the mountain west, I was immediately on board.

A bunch of politicians are using public land like the rope in an endless game of tug of war. It’s exhausting to constantly worry about how my home is being destroyed little by little by rich ⬜️🤴 in suits who don’t care. They only ever see $$$ and never what will happen to the next generation.

But my boys deserve a chance to see a WILD west - and @wildernesssociety is doing the hard work of making that happen. I was honored to work on this with them. My mom would be so proud.

Thanks @katieboue for the nifty video! She took my sticker design on a roadtrip across So Utah!

📍 snapshots from my favorite work trip of all time.

After two summers spent fighting to protect Utah’s national monuments with my colleagues at @wildernesssociety, wrapping this season by taking creators down to visit these landscapes and witness ‘em with our own eyes was the most joyous and heartbreaking gift.

To hear about these places and why they matter is one thing—but to go down there, and BE amongst the rocks and the birds and the wildflowers and the lizards and the cryptobiotic soil, it’s a different type of impact. I would do anything for this land.

I’ve been to all these places before, but coming back through the lens of seeing these once-protected places now removed from monument boundaries was a new gut punch.

While planning this trip, I had to toil over before/after boundary maps, because the TWS team sent us to specifically visit places that were no longer protected.

Turns out, nearly every single one of my ‘saved pins’ collection of places I’ve camped, loved to hike, wanted to visit again—were all now outside of protected boundaries.

This trip was easy to organize, because all of these places I love are under attack. 🫠

Y’all I am so tired, I am so so so so so tired—and I know that everyone else is too. But after witnessing what’s at stake, remembering why I fight for these places, and filling my soul + belly up with other humans who care—I’m more committed to this advocacy than ever.

More to come from this trip, I haven’t even shared the stories from getting to send creators into a tiny airplane over Bears Ears yet!

“The sheer volume of mining claims filed (72) so far in the land cut from Bears Ears National Monument should dispel any lingering illusion about the administration’s true aim,” said Charlie Luke, Utah State Director for The Wilderness Society. “The president and the Utah delegation, led by Senator Lee, would sacrifice irreplaceable cultural resources, wildlife habitat, clean air and water, and our freedom to experience this magnificent place for the short-term profit of a few. We owe future generations a Bears Ears that remains healthy, intact and conserved.” Thanks to Light Hawk for flying us over the areas previously protected from mining under monument status and for Chaitna and Kaya from Grand Canyon Trust for joining me on the ground later in the trip.

Earlier this week I explored some of the vast areas recently removed from Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument with some amazing wilderness advocates. Unbelievable that the current administration deems these places to be unworthy of monument designation. The history and legacy of these places are far more valuable than what can be extracted beneath the surface for short term financial gain.

Live footage of my heart breaking at the edge of the “new” boundaries of Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.

Standing at this overlook I’ve stopped at so many times before, hitting the “limit” of what landscapes this administration finds worthy of protecting, seeing the huge expanse of land removed from the monument boundaries—it hit me like a brick to the face.

Everything you see past the painted hills I’m standing on, is no longer within monument protections. How? Did they even see this before they redrew the lines? How could you be here and not see and feel what I feel?

We’re down here on a road trip to tell the story of these places, and why they matter, and to show you what’s been removed from protections, but also, this trip was for me.

I needed to witness my beloved desert, and see with fresh eyes what has been removed.

On the drive down to our campsite, to a pin I’ve had saved for years and always come back to, I found myself grateful for the dust of cloud kicked up behind my truck—because I needed a little privacy to weep.

This place is special.
This place is sacred.
This place deserves protections.

And I, and I know YOU, will do whatever it takes to restore protections for this place, and for all the public lands across the US under attack right now.
