“Instead of saying ‘I don’t have time,” try saying ‘it’s not a priority,’ and see how that feels.”

Time-use expert Laura Vanderkam dropped a whole bunch of truth bombs on us during last night’s Expert Talk.

💣 Think of time in terms of 168-hour weeks, not 24-hour days
💣 Track your time to see where it’s really going
💣 Let go of other people’s judgments of how you spend your time, especially if that gives you permission to outsource some of the household labor sucking up your time
💣 More people hire lawn care than house cleaning, statistics show, which speaks to some of the gendered expectations/value we put on people’s time

We had so much fun at last night’s Expert Talk with the brilliant @writerdawnturner, in conversation with OEP coach and facilitator @heidikstevens. Dawn spoke beautifully about the importance of freeing your voice and your stories from having to exist in one genre. Your observations and narrating, she said, can show up in the world in many forms, from fiction to memoir to poetry to op-eds. We love that ❤️

When an @ashokachangemakers conference is at Ghost Ranch and seeing the faces of OEP Fellows Emiko Soltis and Jessica Sager — both part of our community for almost a decade now — warm you as much as the sunshine 💛

🚨Exciting News🚨

I’m prepping to write a trade book.

Very grateful to my op-ed writing coach, Chris Larson, who encouraged me to attend the #AskanAgent2026 workshop with @theopedproject. The workshop made me excited AND overwhelmed. 🤯

Some important reminders though to guide me in my process:

💡”Trust yourself to carry vulnerability + expertise in your writing” @reginalbrooks
💡Pay attention to “balance and pacing” @lynnjohnstonlit
💡”The more personal, the more real a story gets” @cece_lyra_agent

As I think more and more abt who my audience is, I am excited that each and every one of you will be on this journey w me. Your presence, encouragement, and engagement matter more than you know. So, thank you in advance!

@lauramazer mentioned a quote from @katieorens + it resonated with me:

“Do you want to be right or do you want to be effective?”

Here’s to being effective + having an impact. 👊

Let’s gooooo. 🩷

My March on Washington wasn’t symbolic—it was lived.

Our bus was attacked en route to Washington, DC in 1963. The
lessons that followed shaped how I understand power, preparation, and survival to this day. History doesn’t live in books alone. It lives in what we do next.
