15th October is the Day of Teatro de las Oprimidas
Join Madalena-Berlin on October 17 to celebrate in the way we know best: through Forum Theatre. We’ll present SCHMERZ IST NORMAL. Come celebrate with us! 🎭

Teatro de las Oprimidas emerged from the urgent need to create theatrical representations that do not blame oppressed people for the oppression they face, and that move beyond individualistic ways of staging conflict.

It is an aesthetic and political investigation that brings social structures into the performance and into dialogue with the audience.

Teatro de las Oprimidas promotes an aesthetic inquiry into injustices shaped by the intersections of gender, race and class. It examines how socialization and the construction of gender shape social roles, making visible the mechanisms of oppression that sustain patriarchy and exploring alternatives to transform this reality.

Teatro de las Oprimidas is a methodology with specific proposals for making theatre, open to everyone committed to overcoming patriarchy, making space for other ways of being, and building a project of social transformation that includes diverse subjectivities.

Above all, it opens up a way of thinking about Feminist Aesthetics.

@barbara.kuringa , a leading methodological reference for the Ma(g)dalena International Network, is an artist, writer, teacher and the artistic director of @kuringa_berlin and @madalena.berlin.

Her book Teatro de las Oprimidas traces the development of feminist aesthetics among artist-activists from diverse regions, nations and cultures, and presents the political history of the Network @redmagdalenasinternacional

Bárbara, today we celebrate your vision, your teaching and all the work you set in motion.

Thank you for all that you’ve given us and continue to give.

Long life to Teatro de las Oprimidas!

May keep moving us, finding strength, resistance and possibilities through Teatro de las Oprimidas.

Happy birthday, Bárbara! 🎂

Palestinians Are Your Eyes: A worldwide reading to never forget

On October 15, 2026, theaters, universities, public squares, and bookstores around the world will unite in an act of global cultural resistance. On this date, dozens of companies, artists, and associations ranging from Brazil to Mexico, from Italy to Ireland, from Jordan to Gaza, will stage the texts written by the young authors of the Anqa Theatre Company throughout the course of the same day.

Who is Anqa
Anqa is a theater collective born from an initiative by Progetto REC. It is composed of authors and artists from Gaza and Italy who, through theater and writing, transform their own experience into a direct, human, and unfiltered testimony. In Arabic, Anqa means phoenix.

Why October 15?
The choice of October 15 is not accidental: on this very day in 2023, young Anqa Company performer Abraham Saidam lost his life under the bombs in Gaza. With his death, the dream of a young man who wished to dedicate his life to art was shattered. Today, his fellow artists transform that pain into renewed hope: by entrusting their experiences to writing, they honor Abraham’s memory and continue the mission he could not fulfill.

Solidarity in Action
Any proceeds derived from donations collected during the initiatives will be allocated to fund the Jafra Center in Jabalia, Gaza. The funds will support the operation of medical clinics, tent schools, community spaces, personal hygiene facilities, and recreational and theatrical activities dedicated to children. ——

Masculinities in Transition
Workshop

How are toxic male loyalty, peer pressure and the silencing of violence reproduced in our everyday relationships?

Can men imagine other ways of being and relating?

Masculinities in Transition Workshop invites men to investigate how toxic masculinity is socially constructed and reproduced, and to imagine collective possibilities for transformation.

Participants will explore the narratives and mechanisms related to toxic masculinity that sustain inequality and violence, and how they are present in their own lives, relationships and social contexts.

Through body-based exercises, Image Theatre and improvisation, the workshop creates a space to examine how these structures shape everyday experiences, emotions and behaviours.

It is based on the methodologies of the Theatre of the Oppressed and Teatro de las Oprimidas: aesthetic, political and participatory practices that understand oppression as something imposed through social norms and rooted in our bodies.

This methodology allows us to stage, make visible and materialise situations and conflicts that often remain hidden or normalised.

The images and scenes created become starting points for reflecting on our own positions within these dynamics and imagining alternative ways of being and relating.

The aim is to build a collective space of trust where participants can reflect critically and develop concrete, shared strategies for transforming relationships between men and their social environments.

This workshop seeks to create spaces for encounter and open up the possibility of imagining masculinities that are diverse, caring, affective and free.

Limited places available.

🎭 AESTHETICS OF SOLIDARITY FESTIVAL
20–30 August 2026 | Uferstudios Berlin
Artistically Powerful. Radically Inclusive. Politically Impactful.

❓ Was muss sich verändern?

🎭 TO GET TOGETHER – Rückblick auf die 6.

Artistically Powerful. Radically Inclusive. Politically Impactful.

 20–30 August 2026

@aesthetics_of_solidarity is a 10-day Festival of interactive theatre, workshops, dramaturgy laboratories and public dialogue.

Urgent social conflicts — from housing justice, migration policies, ecological crisis to toxic masculinity — are transformed into collective artistic experiences shaped by rhythm, movement and sharp humour through Forum Theatre and Legislative Theatre.

The festival proposes theatre as an assembly and collective imagination practice: a space where the audience is invited to enter the scene, test alternatives and change the narrative of the performance.

The programme includes works by KURINGA’s International Ensemble, as well as presentations by Berlin-based collectives such as Pandeforium, @bralin.theater , Masculinities Lab, @madalena.berlin , sharing the results of long-term collective creation processes.

Furthermore, it offers workshops to learn about the techniques that serve as base to create those plays.

The festival marks 15 years of KURINGA’s artistic, pedagogical and political work in Berlin under the artistic direction of @barbara.kuringa , one of the leading international voices in Theatre of the Oppressed, long-time collaborator of Augusto Boal, and creator of “Teatro de las Oprimidas” as a feminist and decolonial practice.
