Success.

What does that even mean anymore?

Such a huge word.

And boy, it changes as the years go by.

I recently heard Rachel @rachelwardofficial — who I adore — say that success, at this point in her life (she’s 68), is “the idea of turning into another aspect of myself to roll into.”

Loved that.

Because for years I was “the successful art director.” The creative director. The magazine person.

Then the magazine world I loved dried up.

Suddenly I wasn’t that anymore.

Who was I?

Well, I got to find out.

I rolled into another aspect of myself. A few, actually.

I love not being “that title” anymore—but it took some work to let it go and roll into what was next.

Trust me.

Then Katrina @katrinadelmar shared this beautiful quote from the poet @Eileen.Myles:

“A succession of moments.”

Now that’s a definition of success I can get behind.

Not one big arrival.

Not one title.

Not one career.

Just a succession of moments where you keep becoming you.

I relate.

Thank you, Katrina. Loved this chat on your rooftop.

Katrina: Artist. Filmmaker. Photographer. Band leader. Mad surfer.

Clearly a woman who’s still rolling into what’s next.

I’m curious...

Has your definition of success changed as you’ve gotten older?

Wanna hear.
