Sickle cell warriors have spent generations fighting for better care. Now that new treatments are emerging, we must ask: Who will actually benefit? 🩸

As someone who has lived with sickle cell disease my entire life, this question is deeply personal. That is why I was honored to speak at @texassouthern during Homecoming Week for “Be the Breakthrough in Sickle Cell: Sickle Cell + Gene Therapy = Real Talk.”

As a sickle cell warrior, public health professional, and advocate, I believe conversations about gene therapy must go beyond the science. We must also address access, affordability, fertility preservation, long term outcomes, and the support patients need to make informed decisions about their futures.

While gene therapy brings hope, a breakthrough is only meaningful when patients have the information, resources, and opportunity to decide whether it is right for them. We cannot celebrate medical advancements without addressing the barriers that determine who gets to benefit from them.

I am grateful to @genetix_biotx and the @nflalumni for the invitation to be part of this important conversation and for creating space for the voices of sickle cell warriors. A special thank you to my friends who showed up to support me. Having familiar faces in the room while discussing something so personal meant more than you know. ❤️

I will continue using my voice to bring lived experience into the conversations shaping the future of sickle cell care. Our voices matter, our questions deserve answers, and our experiences must be part of the decision-making process.

The future of sickle cell care must be built WITH warriors, not just FOR us.

Some months remind you that flourishing isn’t about doing more—it’s about fully living the life you’ve been given.

This month looked like…

⛳ More time on the golf course, continuing to sharpen my game—and celebrating two Longest Drive wins along the way.

🏥 Celebrating the grand opening of AIM Georgia, the state’s first medical-focused public charter school. Serving as a founding board member and witnessing this vision become reality was both humbling and inspiring.

🎉 Celebrating my incredible son’s 20th birthday, a milestone that filled my heart with gratitude.

💚 Meeting my sisters and family in Florida to cheer on my nephew at his first AAU basketball tournament and create memories that will last a lifetime.

🌿 Closing out the month at The Links, Incorporated National Assembly, while celebrating my graduation from the Links Leadership Academy—an experience that challenged, inspired, and strengthened my commitment to servant leadership.

I’ve learned that flourishing isn’t found in one defining moment. It’s built through purpose, meaningful relationships, continuous growth, joyful celebration, and saying “yes” to the opportunities that stretch you into who you’re called to become.

This journey of owning my evolution continues, and I am genuinely loving every day of it.

My turn. My journey. My flourishing.

And one thing is certain…

I drove 4 hours to Nashville, walked a 5K with my Bestie @katrinahaggersmith , and turned around and drove home—all within 24 hours. Because to me this is what a lifestyle looks like: choosing health, choosing joy, choosing me.
