A Message from Moonshot Co-Founder Tracy Sayre: Nine years ago, @katrinamedoff and I were on my couch in Queens, planning our first Moonshot Film Challenge with nothing but gumption. Hundreds of women and gender-expansive people signed up to join this crazy dream we had. This was the beginning of Moonshot Initiative. Over the past nine years, we’ve worked with over 20,000 filmmakers through our film challenges, workshops, accelerators and courses. Together we produced 41 films. We’ve helped so many people pitch to major companies, get hired in writers’ rooms, get representation, get professional feedback on their work samples, make connections, and achieve their dreams. This is such bittersweet news, but after almost nine years, I’ve decided it’s time to step away from this work. Katrina and I have been sharing the executive director position all this time, and now I’m so excited to watch Katrina continue as the organization’s sole executive director. She’s my best friend, and she’s the best person to lead Moonshot to the next phase. I moved to Kingston, NY, several years ago, and I’m looking forward to getting involved in my local community. With initiatives that create returnships for moms re-entering the workforce and supportive childcare solutions, they work to amplify the visibility of content made by moms in order to create job opportunities that will get #momsbackonset.

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of @tribeca Festival this week and reflecting on the power of bringing people together around storytelling. One of the highlights was hosting the @picturemotion__ brunch with @kinemahq, where funders, filmmakers, nonprofits, and cultural institutions gathered for a collaborative conversation on audience building and the future of film engagement. I loved the exchange of ideas and perspectives in this room! Thank you @theimpactceo, @ebestinthewest, @reshmasaujani and @neuhaus for all of your insights. I also had the opportunity to see Good Grief, Sara Bareilles’ moving new documentary about loss, creativity, and resilience. It was incredible. We're partnering with @moonshotinitiative to give one #MadeinNY Fellow the chance to pitch their TV pilot script to @HBO, @Netflix and more as part of the Moonshot Pilot Accelerator! The NYC Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment is proud to support this initiative to increase representation of women and gender-expansive folks in writers' rooms and on screen. Alums have sold projects to production companies they met through the Moonshot Pilot Accelerator, gotten staffed in writers' rooms, and received representation! How does it work? Submit your application by this coming Wednesday, May 27. The 6-8 selected fellows — one of which is GUARANTEED to be a NYC resident — will receive 3 weeks of industry training, learning directly from development execs, showrunners, a speech coach, a manager, an agent, and an entertainment lawyer. Then, they’ll pitch one-on-one to major studios, production companies and representatives including Netflix, HBO, @levelforward, @atlanticpictures, @kaleycuoco's Yes Norman Productions, and many more to be announced! Plus, all semi-finalists get their scripts read by two industry judges — showrunners, series creators and high-level TV writers looking for talent!
