POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Late last year, I met Tori Amos. I got the opportunity to tell her how much of my storytelling is inspired by her music. She was so kind and genuine, and just grabbed my hands and said "we need storytellers, we need you."

Mostly just sharing this story because I want to share something positive after the month we've all had. ♥️

Thrilled to say that 5 copies each of my Drew Leclair mystery series is headed for @veronicabane thanks to my wonderful editor Alyson Day and Harper Collins, who have kindly donated these books to help those school and classroom libraries that lost their books to the Los Angeles wildfires. I'm so grateful to my whole publishing team and to Veronica for making this possible. Fellow Middle Grade authors, do you have any books to donate to the cause? Send finished copies to Veronica Bane (see her feed) or DM me for details!

We want to welcome any of you who are feeling the burnout (particularly now!) and also want to ask: What are YOUR big publishing feels this week?

Feel free to comment below, DM me, Eva or @writewhereithurtspod, or answer in our story questions!

Thanks SO much to @aclibrary for rounding out their amazing year of "Every Month is Pride Month" with this Queer Comics Expo and inviting @matokah, @marinaomiart and myself to talk about the freedom to read. It was an amazing and welcoming experience after a tough pride month so far. We also got to pose with the incredible drag performer @nostalgiajunki3
who wowed us all with music, dance and this amazing Black Panther costume 🤩

Thank you to @mrsdalloways books for being such a supportive #independentbookstore for #authors and #illustrators. I always feel lucky to share shelf space with so many wonderful creatives, but when newsletters come out and you actually get to SEE the friends, it’s so exciting. This little slideshow here is from Mrs. Dalloway’s recent drop-ins. I just wish we were all there at the same time!! (SO close, yet so far!) Congratulations on your amazing books! @iamrozellakennedy @marlafrazee @carterhiggins @dsantat @snailwriter @katrynwrites
If you’re looking for signed copies, go check out Mrs. Dalloway’s!

P.S. Time is truly a weird thing… many, many moons ago, at an #scbwi conference, one of my manuscripts was placed with the amazing Ann Whitford Paul (pictured here) - who gave such lovely advice. At that same conference I met Marla, Dan and Carter. So glad - for the world - that everyone is still making books. Rozella & Katryn… lovely to meet you. Hoping to see you all in person soon!

P.S.S. @christopherdenise… look over my shoulder! 🦉🍕

✨Bay Area Book Fest was a success!!!✨

I not only got 2 books signed by some really sweet and kind MG authors but I got to meet a lot of my online friends IRL. 💜

I also happened to score an ARC of Shadow Coven by @sisabellewrites and a bookmark from @spricewrites. 😍

Thanks again to all the amazing authors who took the time to add their autographs to my bag. 💜💜💜💜💜

I’m looking forward to the day when I’ll be able to add my own signature to the collection. 🤞🏼

Also, swipe to see @evadeslaurbooks sign her first autograph. 🤩

Snapshots from New York and San Francisco (along with the realization that I didn’t get pictures with my new @novelneighbor bffs 😭😭)

Unbelievably grateful to @keplersliteraryfoundation @mason_deaver @harpercollins @epicreads @bnunionsqnyc @casey.mcquiston @novelneighbor, and all who came out. 💙💙

(Also, I left lots of signed books at @keplersbooks @novelneighbor @strandbookstore and @bnunionsqnyc, plus a stealth-signed copy at a Hudson Books in Penn Station!)

See you soon, Boston/Cambridge!! Casey McQuiston and Becky Albertalli holding an enlarged poster of the Imogen, Obviously cover.

Thoughts from the Imogen, Obviously launch with the irreplaceable @beckyalbertalli

Two years ago, I came out publicly as bi after announcing my debut book, Drew Leclair Gets a Clue. It was information I'd known for YEARS. The clues were all there. But still, a lot of people were surprised. I think some even questioned if it was a "real thing." But nobody knows someone better than they do themselves. And there's a lot going on inside that head that you may never see or hear.

I've been a longtime fan since the Simon days. Reading queer YA books like Becky's, I was seen in a way that made me feel as though I was pressing reset on my coming of age. I was already married to a man, but I knew I had to come out for my daughter (if I hide who I am, what does that say to HER?). But I was also drawn to Becky's books and especially to Imogen, Obviously because of her journey being forced (let's just say it) to come out and facing both vicious homophobia AND bi-erasure. I really learned from that about what I might face as a queer author. And--let me be perfectly clear--it was a *privilege for me to come out. I am loved and I am living in the SF Bay area. Read the news and tell me it's safe to come out in 2023.

When I heard that Becky was launching Imogen, Obviously in the Bay, I knew I had to go. And it was truly all I could have hoped for and more. The conversation was illuminating and both Becky and Mason (separate post to come!) are just so amazingly kind. Becky bought a copy of Drew Leclair Crushes the Case and asked me to sign which almost MADE ME CRY y'all's. I cannot wait to read this book--IMOGEN, OBVIOUSLY--buy your copy today and shop local!
