t MoMo, I took a bold leap by introducing fashion to the gallery—a move that defied the conventional wisdom of the art world. Two years into the gallery’s journey, I knew I wanted to break away from the old paradigms that insisted blending fashion with fine art would somehow diminish its value. But I wasn’t about to let outdated thinking hold me back. I set one simple rule: the fashion must elevate and stand shoulder to shoulder with the fine art I was showcasing.

That’s when I discovered KATUSH by Katungulu Mwendwa, and the journey truly began. Every piece is a testament to craftsmanship—crafted from cotton and wool farmed, spun, and woven in Africa, embodying a rich story of culture and heritage.

As Katungulu herself says, “Collaborating with and highlighting the individuals behind the craft of making our pieces serves as a reminder of the value of clothing. Each part and every person plays an integral role in our work.” This philosophy resonates deeply with me—it’s not just about clothing; it’s about art, story, and the powerful connection between creator and creation.

Welcome back to the Mzururo Lite series where I share my side quests as a cultural tastemaker which features culinary, cultural and experiential destinations powered by Tusker Lite.

This December, I was in Nairobi and I had a wonderful time reconnecting with old friends who had come back home for the festive season I couldn’t be all the way involved but we managed to hit up a couple of local spots.

& this month, I ended up in Mombasa and can’t wait to share what the side quest was on the next episode!

One, I went to The Rift in Westlands for Pesos Daily’s afterparty. Two, I was at The Alchemist for Nairobi RNB’s The Cavemen show. Three, same spot, @haveagoodtripstore product launch. Four, The Canteen in Lavington for Cheffe Studio’s residency. Five, went to Ibiza at Lavington Mall on a Sunday. Six, attended the Katush Nairobi store opening at One Three Six, off Riverside Drive. Seven, met the homies @organicfarmersmarket in Karen. Eight, stopped by Geco Car Wash for some good tunes. Nine, went to Euggy & Friends at The Living Rooms, Visit Ngara. Ten, saw Culoe De Song live on New Year’s Eve. Eleven, passed by the @nairobi_national_park  Twelve, I went to @fahrenheit_lounge_ at ABC Place.

& lastly, I collaborated with a wonderful team and curated a cultural experience in Mombasa.

I also got to work with MANGO & PUMA, which was super fun!
