POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
A Seat at the Table has come to life, bringing together an extraordinary community of makers, designers and collaborators through a shared celebration of craftsmanship, creativity and connection.

On Monday morning, we had the pleasure of hosting the AEVEN Makers' Breakfast, bringing together the people behind the pieces for a morning of conversations, introductions and new connections.

After months of planning and collaboration, there was something particularly special about hearing the stories behind the work and seeing relationships form around the very pieces that brought us together.

At its heart, A Seat at the Table is about creating space for these exchanges. A place where independent makers can share their stories, have their voices heard and take their rightful seat within the wider design community.

The chairs and pieces brought us together. The conversations are what will carry us forward.

A glorious day with my tribe the Society of Designer Craftsmen at the Marlin Waterloo Hotel on Sat 18 April.

The Society of Designer Craftsmen is one of the oldest & most highly regarded arts & crafts societies in the UK. Formed as the Arts & Crafts Exhibition Society in 1887 with Walter Crane as the Society’s 1st & William Morris as the 2nd President, the purpose was to give a voice to, & to organise exhibitions for the growing body of designer-makers.

Current membership is over 350 artisans & the speakers were selected to launch our collaborative pairings.

Collaboration as many of you know is at the heart of my practice for 20+ years as seen in previous post of an intervention on my work in Canada at Guelph Art Gallery, PrismPrintInternational 22Jan-3May.

A selection of projects since 2006 were showcased at UWE Bristol 2016 & IMPACT International Conference Santander Spain 2018:

A new project was launched last year ‘to keep the NHS PUBLIC’ at the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair (now renamed IMPRINT). I continued on Sat, collecting signatures to be integrated into the evolving WORK in PROGRESS incl Alice Kettle et al.

Kayley Holderness (no photos by her request during the presentations, so I’ve put in some taken at Collect 2026 of her & her pots pics 6+7) introduced the speakers Emma Lacey, Chris Spencer, Simon Jewell & Alice Kettle; who gave us inspiring insight into their own collaborative projects.
Hazel Connors introduced the collaborative pairings between selected members of the SDC & Suffolk
Craft Society; I’m paired with Jessica Palmer.
