Stilla II & III

Stilla: The largest vessels I’ve made to date. Pebble-like in form, almost torso-like in scale, they feel calm, steady and grounding. There’s something about their presence that makes me want to reach out and hold them.

Built by coiling wide bands of clay, each vessel carries the traces of its own making. Lightly scratched surfaces reveal the delicate, deliberate marks of the maker, while washes of tonal blue engobes settle softly across the forms.

Quiet, tactile and reassuringly solid. Vessels I simply want to embrace.

Crest, Vessel V (two angles), Undula (small), Undula (large and small).

These vessels are each built from the same white stoneware clay, celebrating the material in its purest form. Fired to stoneware temperature and left unglazed, each piece reveals the quiet beauty of the clay itself, allowing the craftsmanship to take centre stage.
Look closely and you’ll discover delicate, repeated marks etched into the surface, created through a process of careful, considered scraping. These subtle traces of the maker’s hand bring texture, depth and a sense of intimacy to each vessel, honouring both the material and the process of making.

Rae VII, X & IV by Kayley Holderness.

Rae is a collection of sculptural, thrown terracotta vessels, fired to stoneware temperatures to achieve a rich, dark reddish-brown tone throughout the clay body. The naturally textured surface of the sculpting terracotta lends each piece a tactile, almost elemental quality.

Left unglazed on the interior, the vessels are adorned with hand-painted engobe shapes that trace the meridian lines of each form. Radiating across the surface like rays of light, these linear motifs accentuate the angular silhouettes, celebrating the interplay between shape, texture and form.

It was such a pleasure to show my piece ‘Embrace’ and be a part of ‘A Seat At The Table’ at Decorex this week. This fantastic bar space was designed by Alex Dauley and Grant Pierrus, founders of Aeven Collective. I had such great conversations with other makers, interior designers, collectives and guests of the hosts that, that I am filled with so much joy and hope for the future.

Thank you @alexandriadauley @grantpierrus @aevencollective @decorex_international

Just a lil’ studio shot yesterday before packing these babies up for ‘A Seat At The Table’ at Decorex in just over a week’s time. So excited to see them as part of the display there.

Thank you @aevencollective for selecting my work for the showcase.

Gather 1/3

Slab-built forms, unglazed white stoneware.

Some people say these remind them of trees, others the sea. What do you think? I couldn’t decide, but there’s something here about the continuing theme of connection for me. My work tends to come in families; interconnected groups. Whether they be people, trees, waves… they gather together.

You’ll most often find me coiling my work, but I also enjoy throwing and slab-building. I love playing with scale, starting with small elements that make up a larger piece. I also enjoy making maquettes out of cardboard as you can see from the carousel. Any form of making makes me happy :)

This collection was a joy to create - an antidote to those sad, isolated covid months in 2020. I was lucky - I used the time productively and sat in my living room creating lots of new work. Having to close my teaching studio for four months meant I had time to explore my own ideas for the first time in years. I was delighted that this piece made the exhibition poster for the SDC show back in 2020 (last image).

From the moment these forms were created they danced together. Of all the work I have made, this is my favourite.

I often call my collections ‘families’ and this family is a true representation of mine: connected and joyful.

‘Embrace’ was shown at @collectartfair in February 2026 as part of the @societyofdesignercraftsmen_sdc’s ‘Uncommon Ground’ showcase.

Every line, every curve, every edge, every detail… each one deliberate and so carefully considered. Nothing is left to chance when I build my work.

In December last year, photographer Richard Kalina captured my pieces so beautifully that I burst into tears at the very first click of his camera shutter. It was a moment I’d waited so long for. Working with Richard was an extraordinary experience - he has a fantastic eye for composition, and spending time with him meant I finally gave these works the space and attention they deserve to make their fullest impact. In these images, each piece stands proud and strong, and I’m so delighted to share them with you. This is just a small selection; I’ll be sharing more in the weeks and months ahead.
