Tailhook ✈️

This was a favorite read last month! ❤️ I’d been in such anticipation for it after reading The Approach last year and absolutely loved it!!

The Approach follows hero pilot Chen Jiayu (who early in his career made a successful emergency crash landing after both of the plane’s engines failed) and an air traffic controller at his home airport, Fang Hao. Tailhook is a oneshot spinoff of The Approach following two of their pilot friends from different airlines, Zhou Qichen and Lang Feng. Zhou Qichen is a former military pilot who has transitioned to civil aviation with regular domestic flights, and Lang Feng is an airbus pilot based in the Netherlands who routinely flys the Amsterdam-Beijing long haul route.

In The Approach, we get to see when Zhou Qichen and Lang Feng first really take notice of each other and get little glimpses into their relationship, so I was really eager to see what their dynamic and journey would be like, and I was so satisfied with their story 😩💘 Since we’re already supposed to have met them in The Approach, the spinoff starts with a bang right into their physical relationship 👀 This is a really smutty read, absolutely filthy and super descriptive, and I was here for all of it 😌🔥 but in addition to the smut, I really love the progression of their relationship and how they overcome things together. The two are so different and have very different outlooks. Zhou Qichen’s had some really bad experiences leaving him with physical and emotional trauma while Lang Feng was raised with love and support and has very rigid ideals. Even though it was only one volume, I went through all the emotions 😮‍💨 Their story is super moving, and you can sense their maturity from their interactions and communication. I fell in love with both of them and really loved how their story concluded 🫶

I really wish the English edition of The Approach had released before Tailhook because I personally feel like it was super satisfying to read Tailhook after the main story. While Tailhook can be read first or as a standalone, I feel like The Approach really lays the groundwork for the aviation setting and.. [cont. in comments]

Case File Compendium: Bing An Ben 🩸

My in flight entertainment! ✈️

I finally started BAB! 🙌 I’ve been apprehensive to start this one because I know people have really heated opinions about the series and have gotten really riled up about the story in the later vols 👀 All I knew before starting was this snippet from the blurb: “an elite young man with a dark side develops a deep, aggressive relationship with his former doctor” 🙈 I read Erha and Yuwu earlier this year, so I’d like to read this third Meatbun series too! Please don’t spoil me on anything!! 🫶

I read through about 60% of volume 1 on my flight today, and I was sucked right in 🫣

“Those people are my kin. The only way I differ from them is that I wear a better disguise.”

I’m finding He Yu and Xie Qingcheng both very interesting characters so far. A couple of their interactions have reminded me of Chu Wanning and Mo Ran, so I’m excited to see their character arcs and how their relationship will develop (considering they are both straight and homophobic but are also the mcs of a bl novel) 👀 Also.. nothing like searching online for a kinky wedding dress for the person you hate and fantasizing about them wearing it while you’re sharing on a bed with them at the police station (while also being straight and homophobic) 🎀

The Broken Ring: This Marriage Will Fail Anyway 💫

Happy Release Day!! Thank you @inklorebooks for sending this review copy!!

I’ve been really enjoying this manhwa series 😌 The story starts following playboy Cárcel as he’s begrudgingly coming to terms with his impending marriage to Inés, his fiancé since childhood. Despite having made many efforts to delay the wedding and having played the field before making his wedding vows, Cárcel values fidelity in marriage and is determined to be a good husband to Inés. Inés, though, is not looking for a happy married life. She’s strategizing how to protect herself in this lifetime after multiple lifetimes and regressions have ended in pain [official blurb in pinned comment 📌]

Volume 3 continues into their newlywed life and gets deeper into the past lives Inés has lived and her suffering. I’m so invested in her finding peace and happiness 🥺❤️‍🩹 I really like Cárcel, and I’m excited to see how their relationship develops 🥺🫶 I love that we get both of their povs through the story so we have a full view of their motivations and reactions.

Volume 3 almost finishes off season 1 of the webcomic! The beginning of volume 4 will complete season 1 and get right into season 2! The webcomic is into season 3 and ongoing and evidently on hiatus due to the artist’s health issues (per mangaupdates) 🥺

The manhwa is adapted from the already completed original novel, and I really hope Inklore is planning to license the novel for a print release too!! 🙏 Since we’re getting the teen rated manhwa, I’d love if we could get the mature rated novel (like the Under the Oak Tree teen rated manhwa & mature rated novel releases)!! 👀

I haven’t read into season 2 of the webcomic yet, so really looking forward to volume 4!! 🥰

Remnants of Filth ❤️‍🩹

It’s been a few weeks now since I finished my read through and finally putting down some thoughts 🙈 I made a post last month after I finished vols 1-4 that was full of spoilers because I was overflowing with emotion and needed somewhere to shout about things 😆 I’m back with a less spoilery update now that I’ve finished the series!

I really really enjoyed this read 😭 I went through every emotion 🫠 By the end of my read, Mo Xi had become my favorite Meatbun character 🫶 and I ended up enjoying Remnants of Filth even more than The Husky and His White Cat Shizun.. 🫣 Don’t come at me! I like them both! 👀

Vols 1&2 felt a little slow to me, but after knowing the whole story, I feel like seeing Mo Xi’s feelings and interactions with Gu Mang is important 🥺 Vols 3&4 consumed me, and I was wholly invested through to the end. I cried so much in vols 4&6 😫 I’m glad my sus-sensor was well calibrated, and I was suspecting the right person (one of them at least 😅), though, straight through to the end there were some surprise twists that I hadn’t seen coming 🫣 One character in particular I felt really betrayed by 🥺 I was literally sitting here gasping in shock 🙈 I loved the way things were revealed and loose ends were tied up, and I loved the ending 🤧

I fell in love with Mo Xi 🥹❤️ His yearning, his unwavering loyalty and that he actually put it into action. I’ll never forget ‘Are you done?’ 🫣 I was screaming 😆 Squaring up to (you know who) ready to throw hands 🥰🙌 His fierce/gentle gap was really cute too 😭💘 My favorite scenes were every scene with Tuntian 🐋🫶

My fave character after Mo Xi is Murong Chuyi 😭 He had such Chu Wanning energy (fierce and strong, a tsundere cat behavior), and the more I got to know him (spending all his time tinkering with his inventions), the more he was like Chu Wanning 🥺 I cried so much over his backstory reveals, and I’m so proud at his restraint, that he persevered while continuing to be compassionate and kind 🫶

I only have one complaint with Yuwu, and it’s that I feel like Erha needs to be read first in order to enjoy Yuwu fully 🫣 There are times that.. [cont. in comments]

Unread Manga Fridays Ep. 34 - A Starlit Darkness

Subaru Karasuma is a struggling writer, drowning in debt, and at the end of his rope. But before he can sink deeper into despair, he catches the eye of the talented, rich and handsome writer Geppo Yagira, who he both admires and envies.

And Geppo throws him a lifeline: write me something amazing and I’ll pay your debts off for you. What a swell guy this Geppo fellow is!

I picked it up expecting a Hashihime-esque psychological 1920s drama. Though it initially read like a love triangle to me. And after thorough discussion with kdmeowmix (@kdmeowmix), she mentioned this is really a twisted tale about impostor syndrome. So your mileage may vary!

If you’re into internal psychological drama where not everything is immediately explained, “A Starlit Darkness” from the creator of Cherry Magic, might be for you.
