Another Yes & Everything in the books, SEARED into the halls of our memories, stamped onto the scene and the city. This one was wild; on the road at @rockwellthtr , the debut of @sh1ftybusiness game show “White Guy, White Bread,” and so so many original, talented performers who continue to generously gift us their energy and their talent.

I have big news. First; there will be no Yes and Everything in May. Sorry. Sad. But!

In June, we will be BACK ON TRACK to host the show every first Friday! AT @loov_the!!!! That’s right y’all - we’re BACK to hosting shows at the most magical venue. It’s been a long road to getting situated so we can do these kinds of shows without interruption, and I am so thrilled to announce that we’re at the end of that road. SO buckle up because starting June 1, this is going to get so real.

And as always THANK YOU THANK YOU to our wonderful photographer @holaa.laura, to all of the people who helped and jumped into bits with me, & to the whole team.

I actually quit drinking closer to twelve years ago— My chosen sobriety date is April 16th 2015 because that was the day I woke up and decided I could no longer use any substance more spirit/mind/mood/body altering than my coffee and ciggies. Eleven years later, I’ll tell ya if you’re curious: If a day comes when I feel overwhelmingly that those sixteen ounces of java and four or five tobacco sticks are compromising my spirit (and yeah, all those other things—I just feel that spirit informs them all) more than my heart and soul can bear… I’ll quit them too. I have a couple few moral imperatives I live by today. One, give as much as I possibly can to every person and situation I find myself with. Two, be as open to what is being said/sung/whispered to me as I can possibly be. Three, as often as possible, forget what I think I know and who I think I am. And, uh——— Four. I’m just guessing there’s a fourth. I’ll get back to ya on that. Right now Ima say one more thing and shut up. My drug use and drinking were monumentally severe and lasted decades. This statement contains no exaggeration; it’s, if anything, understated. If you or someone you love has problems with any substance, I’m here to tell you that you have more untapped strength, love to give, and experience to live through than you may be currently able to even begin imagining. You are essential. You will always have my ear, my shoulder, and my arms to support you. I am here to tell you that, and that is the miracle of recovery.

Sonnets for an Old Century by José Rivera
Directed by April Langehennig
Facilitated by Kyla Olson
Costumes: TTU costumes
Produced at Texas Tech university 2021

Wow.

100 years of black history.

I desire to speak so much on the mission and importance of such acknowledgement and recognition of how far a culture of Rhapsody, Melanin and Humanity can go trudging through the inevitable (and some if not most avoidable)circumstances life throws at us. This we all share: catching the strays of learned and weathered circumstances turned lessons

And yet before the shouts of graditude can echo from chest there is a deep roaring in my bones. Ancestral, primordial and wise.

I walk with so much pride. Solidified and in solidarity with the same raidance from

My mirror
My other life
My cadet in same armor

This piece encapsulates something lived for centuries now
And today and for a couple days more on this short month of the year.. Blackness in struggle, in joy, in liberation.

Id be remiss to not mention my fabulous dance partner in the scene above as we co-choreographed this work, with fervor and shared wisdom for the story we were telling and for the generosity within and through blackness we would be awakening in our collegiate stroll.

To the artist only know as @keandra.hunt
Thanks for sharing armor with me ❤️
I love you

Happy Black History Month
