“In Plain Sight,” hand painted with gouache and spray paint on wood | 24”x24”

A reflection on place, identity, and the parts of ourselves that are both visible and withheld. The title plays on sight and site: what can be seen, and the place that shapes us. For me, land is never simply a backdrop. It carries memory, ancestry, contradiction, and belonging.

This piece was created for The Land You Stand On:
Contemporary Art and Modern Native Identity, on view October 10, 2026 - January 24, 2027 at the @lyman_allyn. The exhibition brings together contemporary Native and Indigenous artists whose work explores the deep connections between land, place, identity, cultural memory, and the ongoing presence of Indigenous communities across geographic and colonial boundaries.

Co-curated by Brooke Waldron, Cedar Nation; Kristine Holohan, Pattagansett Art Center; and the Lyman Allyn Art Museum.

We love it when our board of directors donates herbs from their gardens for community cooking, our volunteers and sponsors @breezeline show out to help out, and kids throw down for a new cooking recipe trial! Not all of our fantastic partners @newlondonsa got to try these delicious from scratch noodles because the burgeoning chefs ATE THEM ALL UP!!!
