Ain’t Life Grand.

I started photographing Umphrey’s McGee over 25 years ago, and I’d already been shooting Widespread Panic before that. So it was pretty special tonight at Brooklyn Bowl Nashville to see JoJo Hermann join Umphrey’s for “Ain’t Life Grand.”

The jam scene is alive and well. Go out and see live music.

Short story: When I told my Uncle @cordelledmonds that I was going to @fiskuniversity here in Nashville,
he said “oh cool man you’re going to music city!! You’re gonna play the Opry and the Ryman I know it!!”
I said “Unc I don’t know nothing about country music like that, some Conway Twitty and Shania Twain at best” 😂😂
Fast forward he was right I’ve played Opry several times and last week I played a headliner show at @theryman w/ @thewarandtreaty
It’s only crazy until it happens 💯

First headliner at The Ryman was a dream come true.
Thank you so much to my friends in the band, crew, management, Ryman staff, and to Michael and Tanya for bringing me along as the opener 20 or 30 times before we were ready to headline.

Howyadern West Virginia! Thank you for getting Cosmic with us in the summer breeze at 4848, what a righteous festival and gathering. The harmony of our community was as beautiful as the majestic mountains and landscape of creation that surrounded us all day and night. I love y’all in a place of no space and time!

✨ Pre-Order for the vinyl of our first live and album and tickets to The Ryman on 8/28 and 8/29 are on DanielDonato.com!

I don’t play a ton of rounds in Nashville, but there are a few that always feel like home, and Heavy Hitters is one of them. Thanks for having me back for another killer round!

Shout out to my friend 📸 @keithgriner_creative for capturing some great shots!

🤠 Howyadern, Chicago! Thank you for a fantastic, beautiful and high-frequency two nights of a packed house packed with music. The energy that you brought to us was so pure and inspiring all night long each night. Let’s do it again next year.

🎵 Thank you to Family Guitars for bringing out the Mike Bloomfield Telecaster. Mike has been an influence of mine since I was 15. The guitar pictured above is the one Mike played with Bob Dylan at Newport Folk Festival in 1964. The popular claim is that it is the guitar that ‘killed folk music.’ I personally believe that this guitar helped bring folk music to life, to help bring it to millions of people who are still inspired by it 62 years later. What a blessing to be able to be a part of the tapestry of life that has flowed through this instrument.

✨ Pre-Order for our first live album ‘Ryman To Robert’s,’ on vinyl AND tickets to The Ryman on August 28th and 29th are available on my website now.
