I hosted two nights of relational aesthetics performance, for which I invited ten participants through an open call to gather in a potluck-style gathering. the work locates art not in a fixed object but in the relationships, exchanges, and ephemeral experience created at the table. This work honors forms of labor often dismissed as feminine: hosting, floral arrangement, emotional presence, and the careful creation of atmosphere. Thank you to those who came ❤️ Vase by @jonesclayworks 🏺Local flowers by @mistandmallow 🌸Flute by Estella Vu🪈 Photos by @farzana6478 & @baileyrigbyphoto

UNO Gallery presents Holding, works by School of Art faculty Michaelene (Mikey) Walsh and Kelli Scott Kelley.

About Mikey & Kelli’s work:
To hold is a universal act, both burden and embrace. It can mean to grasp, to endure, to carry, to comfort, or to resist. Holding acknowledges the exhaustion and complexity of daily life: the struggle to keep holding on to hope, to dreams, to joy, even amid disappointment, sorrow, and uncertainty. This exhibition reflects the physical and emotional labor of holding what we can and cannot endure, what we must protect, and what we must release. It gestures toward the metaphorical and literal weight women carry: the work of mothering, caregiving, and sustaining, as well as the resistance of holding back against destructive forces: floodwaters, war mongers, monsters of power.

Exhibition: February 21-March 8, 2026

Opening Reception: Saturday, February 21, 6 - 9 p.m.

We open Saturday at 6pm-9pm for a reception.

Holding
To hold is to bear weight; to grasp, to endure, to care, to resist. It is a universal act, both burden and embrace.
Holding acknowledges the beauty and exhaustion of being human: the struggle to keep holding on - to hope, to love, to one another - amid sorrow, uncertainty, and the forces that threaten to undo us.
The exhibition reflects what we carry, protect, and release, the emotional and physical labor of women, the quiet acts of care and defiance that sustain life.
Michaelene (“Mikey”) Walsh and Kelli Scott Kelley, longtime friends, artists, and colleagues at Louisiana State University, explore these tensions through distinct yet kindred visual languages.
In Kelley’s dreamlike narratives, hybrid beings inhabit metaphorical worlds where magic and truth entwine. Returning to the most basic elements of the ceramic process, Walsh’s work connects to many makers’ hands across time.
Together, their works hold space for fragility and strength, for wonder and endurance — for the profound act of simply holding and holding on.
