Quick changes are possible when you have a repeatable assessment process and the right model.

My girlfriend came to me with complaints of right shoulder yuckiness. She wanted a massage. So I said sure, but only if I can get some #content. (Don’t worry she got her massage)

I assessed her real quick and found limited right shoulder internal rotation and some clicking and popping with external rotation.

My hypothesis was limited anterior expansion on the right > left. Globally increased compression on the right, and a relative decrease in compression on the left.

So my treatment was a PRI left AIC manual technique, which aims to expand the right chest wall while compressing the left.

We got an immediate improvement in seconds. Then we still had a clicky shoulder but better access to internal rotation. I then followed this up (not shown) with a little massage and internal rotation isometrics at various ranges of internal rotation.

I had to cue her to keep her scapula down when internally rotating the shoulder. She felt her subscapularis kick in. We retested the shoulder external rotation and the click was gone.

When she got up, she told me her shoulder feels better than it has all week. No more yuckiness. Total treatment time 20 minutes.

Now I just gotta make sure she doesn’t mess it up with too many of those YouTube Kettlebell videos, posted from people who obviously got jacked lifting (not kettlebells).

Featured student artwork: Boston as an "itty bitty city" via @_kellie.jayne '18 BFA Illustration. Kellie chose illustration because she loves to create images that have a mood or story behind them. She wrote us, "MassArt has allowed me to constantly progress in my technical drawing skills as well as come up with new concepts and ideas I'd like to explore." Thanks for letting us share your beautiful miniature Boston, Kellie! #CreativityFound #WhyMassArt #OnlyAtMassArt #MassArt #ArtSchool #Illustration #StudentArtwork A tiny pen-and-pencil illustration of Boston sits in front of the tools that created it; it’s barely bigger than the cap of the pen.
