Some places hold memories words will never fully capture. 💛🦋

Today, on Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, we returned to Holtz Children's Hospital for our first Palliative Care Family Reunion.

Walking through those doors brought everything at once: the ache of missing Kaya, memories of what we endured, and the love of people who walked beside us. We embraced her nephrologist, dialysis nurses, PICU team, and so many others who cared for our girl, and for us.

Stephanie and Lia sang "Remember Me" from Coco. I could almost see the way Kaya's eyes lit up when they sang to her. 🥹

And Mahi. 🐾 During our final days with Kaya, that sweet therapy dog lay at my feet as I rubbed her belly and prayed aloud what my heart wanted to scream: "Please, do not let our baby suffer."

And in her final moments, she didn't. Our baby went to rest peacefully. I believe God was there—in the hands that cared for her, the music, and even Mahi's quiet presence.

Today, I met a mother whose daughter passed away at 14 years old from a congenital heart defect. Kaya was 14 months. Different lengths of life, yet so much shared: standing bedside, the endless "wait and see," the hope, the fear, the prayers. Medical moms understand medical moms in ways words rarely can.

Looking around at the mothers, fathers, siblings, and grandparents, I was reminded: this is a club none of us wanted to join. Yet there is grace in finding people who understand.

Faith has not erased my grief. I don't have to believe Kaya's death happened for a reason to recognize God's presence throughout her life and in the people who still walk alongside us.

To the Holtz team, thank you for remembering our children, and for showing us that care and connection don't end when a child's life does.

Our children were here. They were loved. They mattered. And they always will.

Until I hold you again, Kaya Girl. 💛🪴🦋

I’m (not) sorry, but my friends are cooler than yours. 💅

We’ve been through some sh*t. The kind that changes you, scares you, pisses you off, and makes you appreciate the hell out of moments like this.

And somehow, we’re still finding ways to move forward. To laugh. To show up. To find joy. And to remind each other that life after a breast cancer diagnosis can still be really f**king good.

These ladies are the definition of BADDIES.

Strong. Hot. Resilient. A little unhinged. 😂 And still here.

This is the energy we hope to find, at some point, after a cancer diagnosis.

Because there is so much hardship in this journey. So much fear. So much uncertainty. And sometimes, finding your way back to joy and back to appreciating the body that carried you through it takes time.

But when we find the light, find the hope, and start loving on our bodies again… we take one more step forward.

Meet Kelly, diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer at age 40 in 2024. She said, “it’s almost always a thought. Is it back? Why does my breast still hurt? Should I eat this? Should I avoid alcohol?"

If there’s one thing cancer has taught me, it’s this: there is no “look” to cancer.

Society has created an image of what they think a cancer patient or survivor should look like, but the reality is so much different.

Cancer affects children, teenagers, young adults, parents, grandparents, athletes, healthcare workers, teachers, CEOs, and people who have never smoked a day in their life. It affects people of every race, every gender, every body type, every income level, and every community.

Some survivors have visible scars. Others have none. Some lose their hair. Others never do. Some look healthy while silently living with chronic pain, fatigue, anxiety, infertility, heart damage, neuropathy, early menopause, or the fear of recurrence every single day.

The truth is, many of us are walking around looking “fine” while carrying a story you could never see.

That’s why awareness matters. That’s why representation matters. Because when we only show one version of cancer, we unintentionally erase millions of people whose experiences don’t fit the stereotype.

Whether you were diagnosed at 8 or 80, whether you’re in treatment, newly diagnosed, living with metastatic disease, in remission, or years into survivorship, you belong.

So let’s stop asking people to “look sick” to prove their diagnosis.

Let’s stop assuming cancer only happens to older people.

Let’s stop judging a person’s health by what we see on the outside.

Instead, let’s remember this:

The face of cancer is everyone.

Every age. Every shape. Every size. Every story. And every single one deserves compassion, research, support, and hope. 💗
