🤖 Can we trust OpenAI?

This week on Rising Voices, I’m joined again by Kelsey for a conversation about the tragic case of Adam Raine, ChatGPT and mental health, and the difficult question of who is responsible when AI gets it wrong? how much responsibility should fall on the company? The user? And what happens when people turn to AI in their most vulnerable moments?

This is a conversation I think everyone using AI should hear.

Pt 1 of two!

In the blink of an eye, another year is done. Next September I’ll be going into my last year of university, and I want to take a moment to think about the incredible year I had as a third year. I got to work with fantastic directors, learned a thing or two from incredible profs, and made memories with my peers. To the graduates of this year, knowing you has been a blessing and I love you all so very much. To the first and second years, you are a wonderful group of people and I’m blessed to watch you grow. And to my class, we are all so close, I love you all and our tiny class. To my family and loved ones, you have supported me and I can’t thank you enough! Lots of love, and here we go class of 2026

Throwback to the Canada Youth Climate Assembly #cyca2025 - updating my feed as I realized I never posted this! ♻️🌱🌏

In September 2025, I joined 32 other Canadians for the Canadian Youth Climate Assembly - the first citizens assembly on climate in Canada, and the first youth citizens assembly on climate in global history. This was an incredible learning opportunity.

After weeks of sessions online, we deliberated on our ideas in Ottawa, then delivered our climate priorities directly to Parliament. I had the opportunity to address parliamentarians inside the Canadian Senate, speaking directly on the reality of the climate crisis. Throughout the assembly, we heard from Canadian scientists, economists, researchers and policymakers working to address the climate crisis.

The report includes 23 recommendations in direct response to one question: “What do young Canadians want Parliament to do to meet Canada’s climate commitments in a way that reflects their values and priorities?” The recommendations call upon Parliament to accelerate the transition to renewable energy and strengthen climate accountability. Some of the recommendations are in the post but the rest can be found here www.climacan25.ca

I also had the opportunity to write my own section of the report regarding the intertwined nature of the climate crisis and gender equity - regarding gender based violence, and resource extraction and its links to the MMIW2GS crisis.

Big thank you to @mass_lbp @environmentalleadershipca @senmarycoyle and Senator Jim Quinn, & Senators for Climate Solutions for making this assembly possible!

2025… damn. The year has been one of excitement, love, and joy. I got to do some of the most exciting works of my life. Tinkering Tailor, This Marvellous Terrible Place, Shenanigan’s, and Caucasian Chalk Circle all helped me learn and grow as an actor, each one being a beautiful and unique experience that I am so proud of. I wanna thank all my friends, family, and colleagues for making this year such a good one. 2026, if your anything like this year, you’ll be great! Happy new year everyone

Our 2023 #NationalPoetryMonth event was one for the books!

Our April 26 event featured readings by local poets from the Corner Brook area – emerging youth author and LBGTQ+ community member + advocate Kelsey Green (@kelseyggreen), musician and professor Aley Waterman (@aleywat), and award-winning Indigenous author Douglas Walbourne-Gough.

WritersNL's Member Services and Communications Coordinator Wendy Rose was on-site to facilitate the 2023 NPM readings at the Corner Brook Public Library (@nlpublibraries) on the province's west coast, with support from WritersNL Youth Committee Members Hannah Jenkins (@creativelyhannahjenkins) and Jessica Warford, and NLPL staff member Brittany Noseworthy (@bsnoseworthy).

Approximately 40 people attended the in-person event on April 26, 2023, with a number of folks tuning in virtually. Guests included representatives from local partners such as Marble Mountain Literary Festival and @horseshoeliterarymagazine, and the @grenfellcampus Literary Society, as well as local students, families, and more.

We were ecstatic to have legendary local author Nellie P. Strowbridge (@nelliep.strowbridge) in the crowd, and the crowd's excitement grew when Nellie kicked off the Poetry Open Mic portion of the evening with a touching poem written about a Ukrainian student she hosted many years ago.

A diverse group of writers of all ages and backgrounds participated in the open mic, and a handful of folks opted to read their works in public for the first time ever – this is a testament to how open and welcoming this event was for the Corner Brook literary community.

Our #NationalPoetryMonth events seem to grow bigger and bigger every year with such an immense outpouring of interest from writers and readers province-wide, and support from The League of Canadian Poets (@canadianpoets).

We hope to continue building on this success every April as we celebrate National Poetry Month with members of our organization and the public. <3
