Issue 6 of Flare Magazine @flarelitmag is out now! 🔥 Editor-in-Chief @kelwritesbooks2 has created a home for artwork and written works by artists living with chronic illness and/or mental health conditions. Thank you Kelly for selecting my piece “Panic in Color” to be included in this issue released for Invisible Disabilities Week ✨📝🎨

Artist Statement: (Read more at flare-magazine.com)
This piece was inspired by the artist’s own struggle with ongoing panic attacks. The melting-like nature of the watercolors represents some of the most debilitating symptoms—a rush of white hot heat, the sensation of the brain short-circuiting, and the inability to think straight.

Erin McCluskey (she/her) is a writer and photographer in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her visual art has been featured in The RavensPerch, Fusion Art, and Spotlight Contemporary Art Magazine. Erin finds that the arts help her cope with symptoms of anxiety, depression, and depersonalization-derealization disorder.

OUT NOW—NEVER TOO YOUNG: WRITERS ON CHRONIC ILLNESS
•🦌•🍄•💜•🦌•🍄•💜•🦌•🍄•💜•
This one’s been a long time coming, and it’s been a labor of love, too. Like any creative project, this was both fulfilling and exhausting to work on, and in some ways I’m glad it’s over. I feel like I don’t have much more to say on this, other than thank you to everyone who submitted, everyone who helped me out with this, and to everyone who reads. Twenty-seven pieces of creative nonfiction and poetry are now yours. Check out my website (🔗 in b!o) for signed copies, or hit up Amazon for the ebook too!

All proceeds from the sale of this anthology will be donated directly to Palestine Children’s Relief Fund. NOTE: Never Too Young, its creators, editors, and featured authors are not endorsed by, directly affiliated with, or sponsored by Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.

“Introduction”: Olivia details her own personal history with chronic illness and chronic pain while providing context and history for the purpose of the anthology.

“Like Water Over Stones” is a flash creative nonfiction piece. A narrative told through a series of vignettes, Olivia navigates medical gaslighting and radical acceptance through metaphor and memory.

Today for FLARE, I received my copy of the collab print issue that I helped work on! It looks SO good in print! This was a really fun project because FLARE has never done a print issue before! 🔥 And it would not have been possible without Robert and the team at @exclamationmarkliteraryjournal‼️

From reading 175 submissions, communicating back and forth between editors and creators, proofreading, and working on layout, there was a lot of hard work and time spent that went in for this collaboration issue, but I’m so pleased with the product and happy to find additional avenues to support disabled and chronically ill voices! 🥄♿️💓

And lastly, thank you to all who submitted and who have read and/or bought this issue! Thank you for supporting disabled voices! 💓🔥
