17 seasons. One franchise. One legendary career in a Ducks jersey.

You’ll have to watch the full interview to hear what happened next!

On Episode 38 of The Mask & The Mic, Ryan joins @guyhebert31 and @kent_french for an incredible conversation about his 17-year Ducks career, winning the 2007 Stanley Cup, becoming team captain at just 25 years old, life after hockey, and his upcoming jersey retirement at Honda Center in January 2027.

How do you choose a captain when the vote ends in a TIE?

When the Anaheim Ducks were choosing their next captain in 2010, Ryan Getzlaf reveals that the decision came down to a team vote…and he and Saku Koivu finished tied!

So how did they break the tie? 🤔

You’ll have to watch the full interview to find out!

Getzlaf was eventually named the 8th captain in Anaheim Ducks franchise history at just 25 years old, beginning with the 2010-11 season. He would go on to wear the “C” for 12 seasons—longer than any other player in Ducks history.

On Episode 38 of The Mask & The Mic, Ryan joins @guyhebert31 and @kent_french for a special conversation about his 17-year career in Anaheim, the unforgettable 2007 Stanley Cup championship, the responsibilities of being an NHL captain, life after hockey, and his upcoming jersey retirement at Honda Center in January 2027.

Paying for potential.

Guy Hebert breaks down a growing trend in the NHL: teams making huge investments in young players based not just on what they’ve already accomplished—but on who they believe those players will become.

Cutter Gauthier and Leo Carlsson are prime examples. The big contracts are signed, the expectations are there, and now Guy says both players are excited to show everyone exactly why they got paid.

Through the Ducks’ first two games? They’re doing just that. 👀🔥

On Episode 36 of @themaskandthemic @guyhebert31 @kent_french break down Anaheim’s hot start, discuss another major investment in young defenseman Tristan Luneau, go behind the scenes of Guy’s night as a Ducks ambassador, debut the new “Ask The Mask” segment, and Kent shares his journey in the iHeartRadio Top Host competition. DM Guy a question and maybe he will answer on air!

From SoCal youth hockey…all the way to the Anaheim Ducks?

For years, talented young hockey players in Southern California have often had to leave the state and head east to find the next level of competition.

Teemu Selanne explains why the USHL’s expansion into Southern California could change that path completely—creating the possibility for a young player to develop through every level right here at home…and maybe one day pull on an Anaheim Ducks sweater.

Hockey Hall of Famers Luc Robitaille, Joe Sakic and Teemu Selanne are all involved in bringing the USHL west, with Sakic involved in San Diego and Teemu co-owning the new Orange County team.

On Episode 35 of @themaskandthemic , @sel8nneteemu joins @guyhebert31 and @kent_french for a wide-ranging conversation about the upcoming Ducks season, Mikael Granlund becoming captain, the Leo Carlsson offer-sheet saga, the future of hockey in Southern California—and some hilarious stories involving Paul Kariya, Corey Perry and hockey superstitions.

“How good is your bad day?”

For Teemu Selanne, that’s one of the things that separates the great from everyone else—not just in hockey, but in business and life.

As the Anaheim Ducks prepare to drop the puck on a new season, the Hockey Hall of Famer explains why consistency is so important. If you can close the gap between your best days and your worst days, Teemu believes that’s where superstar players—and successful teams—are made.

On Episode 35 of @themaskandthemic , @sel8nneteemu joins @guyhebert31 and @kent_french to talk about the upcoming Ducks season, Mikael Granlund being named captain, the Leo Carlsson offer-sheet drama, his involvement in bringing the USHL to Southern California, and plenty of stories from his playing days—including hockey superstitions, Corey Perry and some hilarious memories of rooming with Paul Kariya.

The most dreaded test in hockey?

Guy Hebert takes us back inside NHL training camp and describes what off-ice fitness testing used to be like—including a VERY detailed trip down memory lane with the dreaded VO₂ max test.

How bad was it? We’ll let Guy explain. 😂

With mandatory fitness testing no longer part of NHL training camp under the revised CBA beginning with the 2026-27 season, Guy shares a firsthand look at what generations of players once had to endure before they could even get down to the business of playing hockey.

On Episode 34 of @themaskandthemic , @guyhebert31 and @kent_french also debate whether the NHL needs preseason games at all, react to Mikael Granlund being named the new captain of the Anaheim Ducks, preview the Presidents Cup at Medinah and share some stories from Guy’s recent charity hockey tournament.

🏒 Does the NHL really need preseason games anymore?

@guyhebert31 makes his case for getting rid of them altogether. With players training year-round and arriving at camp ready to go, does the preseason still serve a purpose—or does it simply create unnecessary injury risk before the games actually count?

Do you agree with Guy? 👀

On Episode 34 of @themaskandthemic , Guy and @kent_french also break down the Anaheim Ducks naming Mikael Granlund their new captain, discuss why the veteran got the “C” over one of Anaheim’s young stars, preview the Presidents Cup at Medinah, and talk golf, charity hockey and Guy’s appearance on the @crazyhockeydadspodcast
