Few people could ‘fill a page’ with reasons why they love working with their boss, but Makenzie Anderson's relationship with beauty visionary @isamayaffrench transcends most. “She’s such a cheerleader for the people in her life," she tells us. After nine years working at @meccabeauty, starting on the shop floor and climbing the ranks to the team's Digital and Social Lead, Makenzie packed her bags for London to work as @isamayabeauty's Head of Social and Content. Now, she's dipping her toe in the design space, helping build Isamaya's @studioiron_. To read more about her ascent, head to the link in bio.

Five years later, I’ve realised the biggest part of my job was never really the job. It was the people I got to build it with ✨.

Somewhere between the launches, the @meccabeauty magic and countless “Has the content gone live yet?” messages, I found some of the smartest, funniest and most inspiring people I’ll ever have the privilege of working alongside.

Thank you for every big idea, every challenge, every laugh and every opportunity.

What a privilege this chapter has been 🫶🏻.

The other day I was coming home from work and there were these two kids playing outside, a boy and girl, probably around 6 or 7 years old. They were moving and dancing freely, as kids do, when the girl stopped and asked the boy “Are you gay?”. He became very angry and defensive, screaming “NO, I’M NOT GAY”, pushing her away. They argued for a bit and resumed playing.

It broke my heart. I started being called all sorts of names around that age. Names I’d never heard before. I wasn’t even at the stage where I was trying to figure out who I was yet. I was just… being. Kids don’t have any awareness of how they look, how they move, how they talk. They don’t know what abstract concepts such as feminine and masculine are. They are pure souls, unaltered by societal constructions, simply expressing themselves. If they say certain things or behave in certain ways, it’s because they heard or saw them in their environment.

I helped put together this fantastic exhibition for Pride in London with @studioiron_ @jackguinness @mybeautifulcity , filled with wonderful art and carried by an even more wonderful community. For the opening night, I wanted to feel like a ballet dancer. Because if I had grown up in an environment where little boys aren’t being shamed for doing « girl things », that’s what I could have become. Kids need an environment where they can exist freely without judgement. They need to be seen, encouraged and loved for what they are, they need to see diversity, possibilities, respect. Kids only mimic their surroundings. It’s as simple as that.

@dahc_dermur_viii you are such a light, our community needs more people like you 🤍 I feel truly honoured to have witnessed your powerful performance and will remember it forever.

Massive thanks to @nectaroon for my dreamy makeup look, I’ve never felt so beautiful in my entire life ✨

PT1: Everyone talks about what makes @meccabeauty so ✨magic✨the stores, the brands, the stories, the sparkle…

All those things made MECCA my dream job when I packed my life into the back of my Toyota RAV4 in 2021 and drove south to Melbourne (while everyone else drove north, TY COVID) to help launch the worlds biggest beauty brand @charlottetilbury .

Since then, I’ve had the honour of helping launch 20+ brands and bringing to life more beauty experiences, campaigns and events than I can count.

But after 4.5 years, I can say with confidence that what’s makes MECCA so magic is the people. These people. 🫶🏼 The team who pour their hearts into making every part of the brand and experience like nothing else.

I’ve never learnt more, been more challenged or worked harder, but above all, I’ve never been more inspired by, or grateful for, the incredible humans I’ve had the privilege of working with. Of all the things I’ll miss, it’s these faces I’ll miss most 💕 Seemed only right to start and end with our first and last photo together @maiabryant 🫶🏼💋
