For all the meat riders in my DMs and comments who are mad that I didn’t take a fight against an unprofessional opponent, here’s what happened. He showed up almost an hour late to weigh-ins and was over 4 pounds above the limit. He ran a little bit and lost some weight, but he was still at 159.2 lbs with his underwear on. I told him to keep cutting because I wasn’t going to fight him if he came in over 158 lbs, which was already 2 pounds over the extra limit. He left confidently, making it sound like he was going to finish his cut. They gave him 3 hours to do so. When 7:30 came around, we went back to weigh-ins, and he stepped on the scale in his underwear at 158.8 lbs. That means he only lost 0.4 pounds in 3 hours. We then gave him the option to either cut the remaining weight or agree not to weigh over 166 lbs. He said he couldn’t do either and started chugging water. At that point, my management, my coaches, and I all decided that he wasn’t worthy of being my opponent in my debut against me under those circumstances. Anyone who knows anything about cutting weight knows that the last 3 pounds are always the hardest to lose and can play a huge factor in a fighter’s performance. I made my professional debut so I wouldn’t have to deal with amateur stuff like this. And to everyone saying he flew all the way from New Zealand, yes, he did. But he’s known about this fight since August 16th. He owns his own gym and has been in the fight game for over 10 years. There are no excuses. I’m sorry to all my family and friends who were disappointed that they didn’t get to see me fight. It’s all part of God’s plan. Thank you to my team @harddriveperformance and @zura_jiujitsu for making sure I was prepared, sharp, and ready to go. We’ll be back in the gym tomorrow, continuing to sharpen my craft. I also want to thank @cagedaggressionmma for giving me the opportunity to make my debut. I’m sorry for how everything played out. All love, and I’ll see you in March! Lastly, I want to thank the Iowa Athletic Commission for being so professional throughout this situation. Thank you to all my sponsors who supported me and helped me get here.
