Very belated but much needed post. I’m so grateful for the 2026 Speech season. The beauty of speech is not the medals or the placings, it lies within in the power of the voice. Speech provides the opportunity to speak for people and communities who are unable to use their voices themselves.

Speech showed me how to use my voice, and I want nothing more than to pass that gift on and use my voice to uplift others. Remember your voice matters. In times of conflict, war, and political unrest, the voice is the strongest weapon. See you senior yearā³

legacy cemented.

Thank you Plattsmouth speech for the past 4 years and a lifetime of memories

This activity has given me so much over these 4 years and I have given so much to it. Most importantly it gave me lifelong friends that I would’ve never met if it weren’t for speech (shoutout the gc).

Whether it’s being a Nebraska class B State Runner-up, district champ, conference champ, having 11 invitational meet wins & 6 meets with straight 1’s for entertainment in a single season. Or preforming a poi about suicide prevention in honor of my late best friend Dawson. Or preforming a duet with my little sister and being the best sibling entertainment pair in the state. Or being the captain for one of the most successful Plattsmouth speech teams in history. And even though it sucks to come up short after aiming for something so large, I had fun through it all and will definitely miss this team.

Speech is barely an individual activity. It truly takes a team of people to be successful, and to all those people who have believed in me and supported me over the years, thank you. To my mom and my dad who brought the program back from a 2 member team in 2022, this wouldn’t be possible without you two.

To grief is to have loved fully

Don’t read all of this, just skip to the end you’ll get the gist

It will be long before I miss something as much as I will miss speech. It will be long before I forget the bus rides in the early morning that at the time felt like a punishment, but now feel like a blessing. It will be long before I find a spark and passion for something more than I found in speech. Speech transformed from a fun way to spend my Saturdays to my own art form. It became an extension of my mind, where I could bring ideas to light in order to better entertain, or provoke thought, or perform stronger. It transformed me into somebody who was scared of any interaction to somebody who looks forward to entertaining the world. Speech became an escape from a world that felt cyclical to a world that was confined yet so mentally expansive. It became a catalyst for self growth, and a tool for me to become the best kind of person I could be.

Speech made me better at everything I needed to be better at. It made me realize the power in kindness, the beauty of friendship, and the joy of interaction. It also brought me to the realm of entertainment. I’ll always have speech to credit for that, when I eventually write something bigger than myself, or bigger than my town, or bigger than this world.

Friends are everything. I had Keston as a friend, a best friend, and that alone blossomed into trying newer, scarier things. In that yellow, crusty classroom that belonged to Mr. Sales, we created a duet. That duet sparked a joy that inspired my motivation for more. I began to work on a Humorous Interpretation that Freshman year, with the help of Mr. Sales, but I gave up when I heard my other friends, Sam and Andrew, were putting together an OID. The butterfly effect has never presented itself more openly to me. If I hadn’t butted in and asked to join them, I wouldn’t be a state champion. I wouldn’t have the one and only Dr. Doug Fan Club (I founded it ā¤ļø)

In short, I will forever miss my true first love. And I thank the people who made it possible. Mom, Keston, Sam, Andrew, Mr. Sales, Trenn, Brady, Ila, Ms. Cole, Mrs. Delhay.

I thank you, speech, and I love you.

Senior Year Speech āœ…

After my freshman year of speech, I set myself one goal, and one goal only: become a state champion in HI. Safe to say… this didn’t happen. When I heard the news that I got a 6 in district prelims and I wouldn’t even be making finals, I was crushed. It felt like everything I had worked towards all went down the drain all at one time.

After giving it some time, I realized that it was silly to obsess over my results. At the end of the day, whether you do good or not all comes down to whether 1-3 judges like you at that given time. What is more important is truly being proud of yourself for what you put out for the audience. My two speeches I was most proud of was my senior year HI and my junior year POI, and funny enough, these events placed the worst at the end of the season. Would I change a thing? Absolutely not.

While I may not have achieved the long shot goal I set myself as a freshman, I truly believe I have achieved much greater. Getting a state championship with my OID brothers is a feeling I will forever cherish. My 3rd place Persuasive this year proved to myself that I can see success in whatever I want if I work hard enough.

Overall, the greatest takeaway from my years in speech is the connections I’ve built in the speech community. Truly, to anyone who has come up and talked to me after a round, laughed or cried at my speeches, or simply rooted me on from afar, thank you.

One more special thank you goes out to my entire team for making my senior year so memorable. My OID brothers, Ben, Keston, and Andrew, I wouldn’t want to go out with any other team. Bekah, thanks for always being there to listen to me rant and obsess about speech. Erica, thanks for being the best Persuasive teammate ever, and I’ll forever feel guilty for stealing your spot at state. My coaches, Mr. Sales, Brady, Wyatt, Pierce, Mrs. Jobman, thank you for your critiques and feedback on my speeches.

Here’s Random Metropolis Airport Guest, Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, Buddy the Elf, Quasimodo, Princess Peach, Dracula, Booze Guy, Clock, Blinkin, Master Persuasion Guy, Lieutenant Frank Drebin, and Shakespeare, signing out.

When I first started thinking about what to say for my final speech season, I honestly didn’t know where to begin. But after spending the day at state, I realized it’s not about finding the perfect words it’s about reflecting on everything this activity has given me.

My freshman year, I walked into speech with just one piece, barely knowing anyone outside of my own team, and trying to figure out how meets even worked. I was so focused on making my performance perfect that I didn’t take the time to look around and appreciate what was happening around me.

Now, as a senior, everything feels different. Walking into a meet isn’t just about performing or hoping to break into finals it’s about the people. It’s about the friendships, the laughter in between rounds, the long days that somehow go by too fast, and the memories that stick with you long after the season ends.

From Wallpaper to Witches, from Horror Movies to Grown-Up Rules, and finally a classic fairytale, each piece has been more than just a performance. They’ve been chapters of a journey that has helped shape who I am today.

Speech has taught me confidence, resilience, and how to find my voice, but more importantly, it’s given me a community I’ll always be grateful for.

Speech will forever hold a special place in my heart. Thank you to everyone who supported me, pushed me, and made these years unforgettable.
