“CHANGES AREN’T PERMANENT BUT CHANGE IS” (Link to show in profile linktree) Moments of transition in an artist’s work can be transformative to their studio practice. Change is often best understood in hindsight, when what came before can be juxtaposed against what is happening now. Transitions can be small and incremental or large and fundamental. Sometimes those small incremental moves can add up to a major shift over time. Sometimes change is sought out, as a means of escaping a creative rut or jumpstarting one’s daily practice. Other times it presents as something unavoidable that comes from the outside world. Outside influences create opportunities for variation. Life experiences like a residency far from home, the birth of a child, the death of a loved one, or a radical change in financial circumstances can all impact the working habits of an artist. Broader social influences like war or political unrest can also impact an artist’s approach to making work. These transitions are met with varied responses, ranging from enthusiasm to indifference, anger to frustration. Change may keep the work engaging to the artist, or may act as a way of imbuing the work with new ideas and concepts. The overarching narrative of one’s practice provides the best understanding for the what and why of major shifts in one’s creative practice. Creative practices reflect the individual creator to the extent that the work changes with the artist. Change in an artist’s works is not always linear. Movement occasionally jumps around between subjects, or takes on a new style unexpectedly. #fluidmediaartists #shimartnetwork #artistcollective #contemporaryartist #changeispermanent

Another pairing from our latest show ‘Art is Crucial! These two works @kellyannmonaghanart and @kev__oh are both landscape paintings, however the artists take very different approaches to the subject matter. Both artists share an interest in light & space. Monaghan utilizes a thicker application of paint and renders the luminous presence of the lightning bugs in a mixture of light green applied as the final touches. While O’Hara uses thin layers of primary colors to create a more moody environment with the brightness of the campfires shining through the thinnest layers of paint. Fluid Media’s winter show, Art is Crucial, is now live on Artsy From the press release: When we are experiencing art, we “deliberately put ourselves into a situation whose reward is to be carried along by something ‘bigger than us’....This voluntary suspension of control allows us to have experiences and feelings that are new to us, that didn’t originate in our conscious brains. Isn’t this what we also call learning?” * Art is a way of exploring, investigating, and expressing what matters most to us. The paths we follow while making art lead us into emotional territories inaccessible by any other means—realms beyond words or ideas. As artists, we draw attention to what we care about most and invite others to share in that experience. This process is equally valuable for those who receive and engage with the work. Art is a shared venture, one that allows all of us to inhabit a richer, deeper world filled with expanded possibility. *What Art Does, Brian Eno and Bette A. page 104

In 1984 I watched Dune and Stalker (Andrey Tarkovsky) movies. I had the feeling that somewhere i would have encountered a path through all this mystery called life. I still do. Great artist Kevin O’Hara: Sleeper must awaken. Fascinating! @kev__oh #americanpainter #mindscape #mindscapes #zeitgenössischekunst #duneart

🪁FRC22 - link in bio🪁 Kevin O’Hara Passing, 2025 Oil on paper 11 × 9 in 28 × 22.8 cm $500.00 “My work is about the fabric of reality and how we create meaning through stories and symbols. I work from observation, photo reference, memory and imagination equally as they are inextricably intertwined in creating our perception of reality. My practice is driven intuitively but I pursue my ideas with a methodical rigor. I make use of illusions and play with creating realities as a way of exploring the authenticity of experience. I think of my works as poems, problems to be solved, or games of my own creation. I’m not interested in providing answers with my work, I’m inviting others to explore with me.” Originally from Colorado, Kevin O’Hara Received a BFA in Drawing in painting in 2013 from the University of Colorado, Boulder. In 2017 Kevin moved to New York where he has lived and worked since. He made his New York solo debut with the show Colossus at Marvin Gardens Gallery. Followed by group exhibitions with Deana Evans Projects, Field of Play, The Royal Society of American Art, Incubator gallery, Techne Art Center, Gallery Tutu, and Survey Survey curatorial project. His work has been featured in WAPOZI magazine and ran the curatorial Johnny Utah project from 2021 until 2023.

Fluid Media Member Spotlight Kevin O’Hara: Kevin’s work is about the fabric of reality and the creation of meaning through stories and symbols. His work encompasses the processes of observation, photo reference, memory and imagination equally as these methodologies are inextricably intertwined in how we each compose our perception of reality. Although driven by intuition Kevin’s practice employs analytical rigor in pursuit of his ideas. Illusion and play are engaged as a way of probing the authenticity of experience in the shaping of visual realities. Like poetry or game making, Kevin deploys rules for interaction within the work. Viewers are invited to engage the compositional arrangements, joining Kevin on a quest in which the journey is more important than the destination. From our current exhibition: The Sky Still Lingers @kev__oh Kevin O’Hara The Carriage of the Spirits 30 x 40 inches Oil on canvas Hosted by The Shim Art Network on Artsy. Link in our bio to see the exhibition. You can see more of Kevin’s work at: https://www.kevinoharaart.com/ From the curatorial statement: Art plays a unique role during times like these, as refuge, as protest, as a means of meditation or deep contemplation. By creating space for moments of self-reflection, art can act as a means of transposing consciousness. Artworks stand in contrast to the high speed, over saturated, and superficial immediacy of our tech and media obsessed society, as anti-spectacle. #theskystilllingers #groupexhibition #contemporaryart #contemporarypainting #fluidmedia #artist #shimartnetwork #color #light #studioart #contemporarycollector
