The No.8 took me a while to get my head around. It doesn’t look or read like a traditional watch, and I think that’s exactly what makes it interesting. It’s unconventional, but not just for the sake of being different. #otsukalotec #otsukalotecno8 #nwa #watch #watchfam

@ressence_watches - TYPE 7 XV Aquamarine For the brand’s 15th anniversary, Ressence released its first-ever bracelet and its first GMT complication in 2025. This aquamarine dial was an 80 piece limited edition for the launch of the Type 7. It features an aluminium bezel, contrasting with the ceramic inserts of other variants. The Type 7 retains many signature elements of the brand’s earlier watches, such as the oil-filed dial chamber, ROCS (Ressence Orbital Convex System) module and the compression lock system for winding and setting. With a matching Grade 5 Ti case and bracelet, the watch wears comfortably thanks in part to the micro-adjustment built into the clasp. What was most mind-blowing is that the dial is actually flat. The oil-filled chamber impacts the refraction of the flat dial so that it appears as if pushed up right against the dramatically domed sapphire crystal. (Thanks @kevincureau for explaining this feature). To enable this dual-chamber design, a titanium membrane separates the base movement and the ROCS module in the oil filled chamber, and both elements are connected via magnetic coupling. There are also mechanical bellows that allow the oil to expand and contract according to temperature, with the oil temperature complication geared to the bellows themselves. On the dial, aside from the aforementioned oil temperature display, the subdials display the running seconds, the GMT and hours. The minutes are read with the long hand pointed at the bezel insert. This watch enters a crowded field of integrated bracelet watches. I think Benoît Mintiens, an industrial designer by training, has created one of the most distinctive design languages in the entire watch industry and this enables the Type 7 to stand out just enough. . . . #ressence #watchcollector #watches #horology #independentwatchmaking

@ressence_watches - TYPE 1 Round Night Blue Benoît Mintiens, an industrial designer by training, has created one of the most distinctive design languages in the entire watch industry. And in my opinion this is the quintessential Ressence and you might agree depending on your feeling towards oil filled watches that is. This TYPE 1 Round was launched in 2023 as an extension of the TYPE 1 Squared collection. It bears all of the signature hallmarks of the brand. This includes the unique orbital time display which has orbital rings for hour, seconds, day of the week and a pointer for the minutes. All of this is driven by their proprietary ROCS module (Ressence Orbital Convex System) which leverages a case back setting and winding mechanism - indeed there is no crown in sight. The rounded ergonomic case in Grade 5 Ti and 11mm thickness lets the watch sit very comfortably on the wrist. Despite the larger diameter, it is paired with very short lugs to allow the watch to hug the wrist. It definitely wears with all-day comfort in my opinion, which goes well with the plentiful lume on display. Be sure to hit up @kevincureau if you want to get to know the watches! . . . #ressence #watchcollector #watches #horology #independentwatchmaking

The Audemars Piguet x Swatch Royal Pop Collection craze has hit. You’ve seen it over the weekend. The fights, the secondary market prices, and a lot of unhappy collectors/scalpers — everything has gone according to plan. Now that the world knows the design as well as a more realistic idea of how hard or easy (if you have the means to pay 3x – 4x retail) it is to buy, do people still want it? If history has taught us anything, it’s that fast, mass adoption is a double-edged sword – you get everything, and everyone all at once – people who genuinely like something, and those who are just there for the ride. Then that candle burns from cool to uncool overnight. Is this one of those instances? We’ve asked a few collectors to weigh in on this release and to see if they’re going to be adding one to their collection. Lead image: Raphaëlle PELTIER / AFP via Getty Images

Don’t think I saw enough art this week to warrant an art week recap, but thank goodness for colleagues, friends, and family who helped make March a little less crazy.
