** Classic I didn't shoot an Elk again this year so here is a pretty picture - insert cheesy quote about how it's about getting out and enjoying nature not shooting an animal post **

Teaching myself how to hunt has been one of the most fulfilling and humbling parts of my life.

Those first elk trips where I couldn’t even find an elk feel like a long time ago. Now, I’m consistently getting into elk, hunt after hunt. The process is working. Just a little slower than I’d like.

This season brought multiple opportunities at different legal 6-point bulls. A bull just outside my ethical archery range. Private-land sanctuaries putting a hard stop to a stalk. And a bull standing 15 yards away, perfectly tucked into a herd of 50+ elk, where all I needed was a couple more steps before the sound of quads came rolling through and the whole opportunity disappeared.

Humbled yet again..

The playbook is growing and it's only a matter of time, until then it's onto the next hunt in the quest to fill the freezer a little bit more.

Toward the neck of the backstrap is a group of muscles whose tendons run about 1/5 of the way down the backstrap.
Now you can leave it to make it look bigger🤣 but then your chewing tendon instead of eating backstrap.
Remove that section, clean it up and keep it separate or grind it.
That is going to produce a smaller backstrap toward the neck, but one you enjoy infinitely more!

🏹 The intimacy of bowhunting.

Kevin Toye: "You just don't get that intimacy you get when you're hunting something with a bow."

No 600-yard shots. No scope. Just you, the animal, and the discipline — tinkering, tuning, building arrows, shooting every day. It's a lifestyle, not a hobby.

🐻 A 300-pound bear. Charging straight at Kevin Toye's 13-year-old son.

Kevin was ten feet in front of his boy when the sow came for them. He says it sounded like "a log rolling down a hill."

🎙️ OUT NOW: Hunting for the Working Man with Kevin Toye 🏹

Kevin Toye runs a masonry company, raises three kids, hosts 249 episodes of the Focus Hunting Podcast — and still finds a way to bowhunt.

His words: "My hunts are — get up at 3 AM, drive an hour and a half, hunt for a few hours, go back to work, type of thing."

We talked elk, a 300-pound bear charging his 13-year-old son, and why the working guy's strategy has to be completely different from the full-timer's.
