[Live Music In The T-Dot] Azure Rose • Sir Veil Monarch Tavern (Oct 3, 2026) Swipe 👉 for more pics and setlists Shoegaze • Psych Pop • Jangle Twang • Indie Although I had a bucket list show scheduled for later in the evening, I wasn’t going to miss the chance to see a couple of the new bands featured in the october/DAZE lineup at The Monarch Tavern. Admittedly, the fact that one of the bands had my friend Frank in their lineup was certainly a selling point. However, if the evening was billed as An Evening of Bagpipe Music featuring Frank on Galician Gaita, I would’ve been scrolling through the rolodex of alternate arrangement excuses pretty thoroughly. But Azure Rose’s debut album “Blue Drops” is everything dreamy, gazey and fuzzy that I love so, of course, I was going to be there. Playing right before them were the currently Instagram-less Sir Veil. Although the band itself is brand-spankin-new, the members are no novices, having been with The Diableros, Airfields and Lipstick Machine. Their set of psychedelic twang-pop was very easy to digest and enjoy. According to the physical setlist, the last song was entitled “I’m Not Listening” and it was pure psychedelic bliss like something straight out of the Paisley Underground. Good stuff! Azure Rose is the brainchild of former Fjord Rowboat-er Justin Grant. Dream pop and shoegaze are the genres that immediately come to mind upon hearing their music. What really makes them stand out to me though is how they feature a three guit assault, which means they’re loud, but they also feature Grant’s smooth and subtle vox, which makes them sound pretty sweet. The eve only featured a couple of songs from the new release, along with tons of new material, so it seems exciting things are still ahead for this band, and I'm ready for it. I would’ve loved to stay for Away Forward (seen them before; they're great) and Soft Set (they're playing Baby G on Nov 7th so, we'll see), but as I mentioned, I was already committed to a long overdue date elsewhere. More on that later... • • •

It’s finally here! Our new album Blue Drops, is officially out and available everywhere you get your music. 💙 The bandcamp version has an extra super shoegazey bonus track. The vinyl is on the bandcamp page available in hand numbered black and transparent blue/white splatter editions and will be available at our show tomorrow. Links in the bio. This record has been a pretty wild journey. We’re really proud of this one and glad that you can finally hear it. Thanks Derek Downham, Kevin McKay, James Paul Mitchell and Ian McKay who played on the record. Andy Magoffin who mixed most of it. Colin Christian who is awesome and mixed the bonus track. Kristine Do who helped with the artwork. Kristian Montano who mastered the record and Drummond Vinyl for sorting out the wax.

Amazing to be shared on Alan Cross’ Journal of Musical Things - 5 bands to hear. It means a lot as CFNY was a lifeline for so many of us around the Toronto area. His History of New Music Shoegaze Episode was legendary! So many people discovered the genre through that one show! Thanks Alan!

So this is the last single before the full album comes out. This one was special because we got James Paul Mitchell from Nashville to play some sweet dreamy pedal steel. It turned out great! The song was sort of a mantra for me when my anxiety would get a little overwhelming: “carry on my mind, carry on…” I don’t usually talk to much about lyrics, but this one wasn’t about those silly movies! Featuring Derek Downham on drums. Mixed by Andy Magoffin and mastered by Kristian Montano! The song is available everywhere now you know how to find it! Links in the bio. The artwork is a piece I did watercolour and ink. I love the green and blue colour combination with the white texture. Thank you James, Derek, Andy and Kristian! You guys are the best!
