🐚 Salty Mornings 🐚

There’s just something about mornings at the dock and that first cup of coffee hits a little different. Just a little time by the water before the day gets going.

Long before Disney World, there was Silver Springs. 🌴

One of Florida’s oldest tourist attractions, Silver Springs was welcoming visitors by steamboat in the 1800s. Its famous glass-bottom boats revealed an underwater world, and by the 1930s, Hollywood was filming Tarzan movies in these waters.

Far from my home in the Florida Keys, I went looking for a little piece of Old Florida that time hasn’t completely erased.

Armed with my vintage Voigtländer Baby Bessa, its beautiful Color-Skopar lens, and a roll of Kodak Tri-X 400, I captured Silver Springs the way generations before us might remember it — in black and white. 🎞️

Some of Florida’s best stories are still hiding in plain sight.

📷 This Camera is 61 years old and still taking pictures. Hopefully I age as well as this camera! 😂

An early fall morning in Key Largo seemed like the perfect excuse to take my 1965 Yashica Lynx 14 out for some exercise.

Armed with Ilford HP5 and that beautiful 45mm f/1.4 Yashinon lens, I headed toward Sundowners on Blackwater Sound for a little black-and-white photography.

With hundreds of cameras in my collection, I’ve learned one thing: old mechanical cameras don’t appreciate retirement. They need to be used!

A little fresh air, a few frames of film, and another 60-year-old camera still doing what it was built to do.

Now, if only regular exercise could keep me going for another 60 years! 😂

Key West Harbor on film 🎞️🌴

Walking the waterfront with a Canon Elan 7 and Fuji Superia 400 — shrimp boats, old docks, weathered buildings and little corners that still feel connected to the Key West Jimmy Buffett wrote about. A little salt, a little grain, and plenty of that old island soul.

🌴 Ever wonder how Key Largo and Molasses Reef got their names? 🌊

Let’s go back in Keys History!!!

Key Largo comes from the Spanish name Cayo Largo, meaning “Long Key” — a pretty fitting name for the longest island in the Upper Keys.

And Molasses Reef? Well, that story is a little sweeter… 🍯

The exact origin of the name isn’t confirmed, but local legend says a vessel carrying barrels of molasses ran aground on the reef. The cargo was lost, and the reef supposedly got its memorable name.

Today, Molasses Reef is one of the most famous dive and snorkel sites in the Florida Keys, with incredible coral, fish, and plenty of history beneath the surface. 🤿 #FloridaKeys #KeyLargo #MolassesReef #FloridaKeysHistory #KeysHistory OnlyInTheKeys FloridaKeysLife KeyLargoFlorida DivingFlorida SnorkelingFlorida ExploreTheKeys VisitFlorida FloridaTravel UnderTheSea KeysLife

KEY WEST ON MEDIUM FORMAT 🎞️🌴

Key West has a way of feeling like a memory even while you’re still there.

The palms, faded signs, old bars, weathered buildings—and names like Sloppy Joe’s and Captain Tony’s that have been part of the island’s story for generations. Walk a few blocks and you can still catch glimpses of the Key West that existed long before the cruise ships arrived.

I photographed these moments on my Pentax 645N with @kodak Kodak Gold 200 in 120. That warm Gold palette feels right at home down here—sunshine, faded colors and a little bit of old Key West preserved on medium format. 🎞️☀️🌴
