This Sunday: UBUNTU HEALING CIRCLE🍂 ”I am, because we are.” 📅 Sunday 4th October 2026 🕐 1:00pm–3:30pm 📍 John Archer Hall, L8 Corner of Windsor St & Upper Hill St Autumn is settling in. The days are shortening, the moon is waning, and this feels like a moment to take stock — of what has nourished us, what we’ve learned, what we want to carry forward, and what we might be ready to put down. And there’s a lot to carry at the moment — in our own lives, our communities and the wider world. Ubuntu gives us somewhere to bring some of that together rather than carrying it alone. ✨Each person who comes helps make the circle possible.✨ Free / donations welcome 🙏🏽 This is a healing affinity space for Black, Brown, Mixed-Race / Dual Heritage and Global Majority people. We centre holistic wellbeing, ancestral connection, collective care and culturally affirming community. Ubuntu is inclusive, intersectional, anti-racist, trauma-informed, non-pathologising and welcoming of all identities, cultures, faiths, sexual orientations, gender identities and neurodiversities.

The OFFSHORE tour I’m embarking on in October is as much about music as it is about linking with and getting to know artists making work about what it means to be Black in Britian today, from Liverpool to London to Glasgow! I’m so happy to have these four incredibly talented Liverpool based artists as part of the show on the 19th October 2026, taking place at @thebakeryvenue @amberakaunu will be bringing a visual element to the night, screening short films and exhibiting prints! @andre.jahnoi will be performing a live decolonial hip-hop set! @blvk.velvet will be spinning a eclectic dj set! @keyoshiwarrior will be performing poems and weaving words Tickets in the usual place, come along and be a part of a one night only affair! Amber Akaunu is a Liverpool born Nigerian-German filmmaker working in cinema and art to document and imagine Black regional stories. Her work has previously exhibited at Liverpool Biennial (BEDROCK, 2025) and screened at London Short Film Festival (Bonded 3.0, 2024). Her creative practice extends to her role as co-founder of ROOT-ed Zine (2017-2024) where she worked to support Black, Asian and Global Majority artists in the North West of England through publishing, workshops, guest lectures, curating and producing. Amber holds a BA in Fine Art and an MA in Film and was awarded the BAFTA Kirsh scholarship for her postgraduate studies at Goldsmiths, UoL. André Jahnoi is a Liverpool-born hip-hop artiste and organiser whose insurrectionary sound and philosophy are heavily influenced by his Afro-Jamaican heritage. He describes his music as decolonial, using lyricism as a means of challenging the babylon systems that bound the ways we imagine the world and our place in it. Channelling inspirations ranging from Damian Marley to Lil Wayne to Walter Rodney, André’s music combines Caribbean rhythm, wheel-and-come wordplay and radical Rastafari thought to provide the crucial soundtrack to the revolution, with love and liberation the key themes of his work. His live sets integrate call-and-response battle cries borrowed from freedom movements across the globe to create a momentary oasis of connection and hope for crowds from Liverpool to New Y

I love, love, LOVE the poetry community! Thank you so much @saint_vespaluus @salporterliterature for being the amazing humans who started @the_new_mersey_poets creating such a beautiful, safe space for creative-minded people to come together. It genuinely makes me so happy to be part of these events. I wrote this poem about my Nanna passing away, but the more I sat with it, the more I realised it applies to so much of life. We don't want things to end. Not the good things, obviously, but sometimes not even the things that are hurting us. My Nanna was so poorly, and I could see the strain it was putting on her and on our family. It was awful. She'd had enough, but as a family, how do you ever accept letting someone you love go? And I think I've realised I do the same thing in other areas of my life. I've stayed in jobs for years that made me deeply unhappy because they were secure, they paid the bills, and leaving felt frightening. Even when something no longer fits, there's a strange comfort in what you know. But I'm at a point in my life where I'm finally asking myself: what if an ending isn't a failure? What if it's simply making space for something that feels more like me? Maybe sometimes we hold on because we're afraid of what comes next, when actually, the hardest part is having the courage to let go. This poem started with grief for my Nanna, but somehow it has become a little reminder to myself too ❤️ Beautiful photos by @glamgigpics

Yesterday we celebrated two of my dearest friends, birthday twins Anna and Perri - with the day especially marking the magnificent Anna turning 60! 🎉🥳 And, because apparently one birthday weekend wasn’t enough, it was also Rachel’s birthday the following day 🙌🏽🎈 The whole adventure was masterminded by Perri, who put so much effort into organising a surprise celebration for Anna (it must have felt like herding cats at times 😅) while also being one of the people whose birthday we were celebrating ✨ So, a big group of mostly Black and brown people, with the Ubuntu crew heavily represented, climbed aboard a coach and descended upon Skipton en masse. I’m not entirely sure Skipton knew what had hit it! 😂 The canal boat offered us what Addae, a Trini, described as possibly the most English experience of his life: cucumber butties, tea, sheep, cows, peaceful countryside… and absolutely no music (or seasoning 😅) whatsoever. Thankfully, we brought the vibes 🔥✨ But what made the day truly special was the people. Hours and hours together to laugh, celebrate, catch up and have some genuinely beautiful, deep and meaningful conversations. Those unhurried moments of connection are such a blessing 🫶🏽 Anna and Perri are both extraordinary, inspiring women who I cherish and respect deeply. They are not simply friends; they are chosen family. It was a joy and a privilege to celebrate them both, alongside so many wonderful people. Happy 60th, @anna_tallulah . Happy birthday, @perri_ah . And happy birthday, Rachel! May this next journey around the sun bring each of you as much love, laughter and light as you bring into the lives of everyone around you 🫶🏽🙏🏽✨
