Cairo has a rhythm of its own.

Seen through its streets, its people, and the small everyday moments that give the city its character, this film captures Cairo as it really feels.

Je t’aime à la folie, Le Caire by @khaledvli & @mostafa_helmmy

‘A love letter to a city I could never fully understand, and could never stop looking at. I’ve spent my whole life surrounded by Cairo, yet somehow it still feels like something I’m trying to remember. There’s a strange feeling that comes with knowing a place so deeply, when the streets start carrying memories you can’t separate from yourself, when a certain light, a sound, or a passing face can take you somewhere you didn’t know you were still holding onto. I wanted to capture that feeling. Not Cairo as it exists on maps, but Cairo as it exists inside me. The one made of memories, sensations, fragments, and things I can’t really put into words. A city that can feel overwhelming and comforting, familiar and foreign, beautiful and unbearable, and sometimes all at once.
This is my mythology.
This is my Cairo.’

@SceneNoise #NewNoise: Hot on the heels of his latest track, ‘MG3BD’, Egyptian rap prodigy, MOUSV, has revealed upcoming new album, ‘Mafia’, with a single that takes aim at critics, rivals and even frenemies.

‘Don’t Call Me Today’ ushers in a new phase for Ismailia native - he seems sharper, more aggressive and focused on building his empire, which comes as a stark contrast to the introspective ‘emo-rap’ he debuted with four years ago.

Co-produced by Gazzar and Farouk Ali, the track pushes trap into more atmospheric and grungier territory, carried by booming 808 bass and sharp, cutting hi-hats layered with intricate fast-paced rolls and tight snares and claps, all wrapped in a brooding melodic loop and eerie synth pads. Unlike so many trap songs that swallow vocals into its arrangement, MOUSV’s words are front and centre, heavily processed yet clear, with rhythmic ad-libs that add to the commanding tonality of his delivery.

He uses Egyptian slang punchlines and clever internal rhymes - sometimes mixed with English phrases - as he touches on themes of loyalty and success, taking a sceptical view of the fact that his phone rings a lot more than it did when he was still at the start of his journey.

It’s an anthem for the ambitious, isolated grinder. But most of all, it’s a well-executed, balanced fusion of the icy confidence of global trap with the grounded, reality of local hustle.
