On Friday, August 21st, my documentary Bigger Than Me: The Hakeem Jubal Croom Story premiered at the historic @guildtheateroakpark in Oak Park, Sacramento and the evening was truly unforgettable.

This premiere was more than a film screening. It was a celebration of community, resilience, purpose, and the rebellious hope that empowers us to keep moving forward even when the odds are stacked against us.

To everyone who attended, supported, shared their stories, and helped bring this vision to life: thank you. Sacramento has played a powerful role in my journey, and it meant so much to share this moment with the community that has embraced my family, my work, and the mission of Defying All Odds.

🎉Meet the BAC Board for the 2026-2027 Academic Year: Khalil J. Ferguson🎉

Khalil J. Ferguson is an attorney and economic strategist committed to building inclusive, community-centered economies. As the founder and CEO of United CORE Alliance, he leads statewide efforts to promote cannabis equity, small business development, and reinvestment in communities impacted by the War on Drugs.

Khalil blends legal scholarship, economic analysis, grassroots leadership, and community-based research to help entrepreneurs navigate complex legal and financial systems. He studied Economics and International Relations at California State University, Sacramento—an academic foundation that deepened his passion for understanding and addressing the root causes of economic inequity. He earned his J.D. from the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law, completing certifications in Capital Lawyering and Business Law. Khalil remains deeply connected to Sacramento’s Black community through mentorship, civic engagement, and his past leadership as President of the Black Alumni Chapter at Sacramento State.

💚 Yesterday, Jay and I had the privilege of attending the Legacy Cann@bis Genetics: Research Dissemination Event, where two years of community-based participatory research was shared with the public.

@norcalseedsandgenetics was honored to contribute to this project alongside an incredible group of researchers, Community Advisory Board members, cultivators, breeders, and community partners dedicated to documenting and preserving California’s legacy cann@bis genetics and the communities that have stewarded them.

It was inspiring to see the research, conversations, and collaborations come together. Thank you to everyone who made this important work possible. We look forward to continuing to support the preservation, research, and stewardship of legacy cann@bis genetics.

After two years of community-based participatory research across California’s legacy c@nn@b!s producing regions, the multidisciplinary Legacy C@nn@b!s Genetics (LCG) research project is preparing to publicly share findings, reflections, and policy recommendations shaped through this work.

Join us for the Legacy C@nn@b!s Genetics Research Dissemination Event — a public gathering bringing together researchers, Community Advisory Board members, legacy cultivators & breeders, policymakers, advocates, and community members for an afternoon focused on the history & preservation of California’s c@nn@bis genetics and the communities that steward them.

🌿The program will feature:

• Research findings from the LCG study
• Community-informed policy recommendations
• Reflections from the Community Advisory Board
• Discussion on genetics preservation, cultural history, intellectual property, and regional identity
• Opportunities to connect directly with the research team and project collaborators

McGeorge School of Law alumnus Khalil Ferguson ‘25 served as the keynote speaker at the University of the Pacific’s 2026 Black Graduate Celebration.

The evening honored and celebrated Black graduates from the Class of 2026, recognizing their academic achievements, resilience, leadership, and contributions to the Pacific community. Congratulations! 🎓

During his time as a law student, Ferguson served as the president of McGeorge’s Black Law Student Association.
