POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A year ago today, my first-ever story was published, and somehow, even after a year, it still feels unreal. Sar Zakhm took more than two years of my life to become what it is, the ending alone took me four to five months to write and getting the opportunity to be part of Pakistan’s first science-fiction anthology, alongside so many incredible writers and stories, will always remain one of the most special things that has happened to me as a writer. I am deeply grateful to Fawad Bhai ( @fawadmmirza ) for giving me that opportunity, for believing in my work, and especially for being honest and supportive enough to tell me where I needed to grow; everything he pointed out in my first story, I carried with me into my second, and having him appreciate that growth meant more than I can explain. Being compared to Christopher Nolan for my writing remains one of the biggest compliments I have ever received. I still remember coming home from work and finding my copy waiting for me, sitting on my bedroom floor, opening it with trembling hands, looking through the pages, and then seeing my name printed there for the first time and crying. I still have the packaging, stickers, and ribbon it came wrapped in, because that moment belongs in my little memory trunk forever. I never imagined that something I wrote could one day become a real book that people would hold, read, keep on their shelves, and talk about. I don’t write or publish for money; I have never earned anything from it I do it purely out of love, curiosity, and the hope of becoming a better writer. And every time I see my books on someone else’s bookshelf, or beside the books of writers I have admired for years, I still get that little feeling of, “I actually did this.” I am endlessly thankful to everyone who read Sar Zakhm, shared their thoughts, encouraged me, and gave my first story a place in their lives. Being able to call myself a Pakistani writer, and to have my name in a book alongside such talented people, still feels like a dream. One year later, I am just as proud, just as grateful, and still a little amazed that I get to say: this is something I wrote.
