An older poem given voice by request
@khwezi_tattoos

This poem is called ‘Lightning bugs’

My skin has gotten thick over time, yes
But my heart has
continued to beat with
tender power
My brain has become
a thousand moving lightning bugs
dancing in orchestrated unison
My body is scarred and sculpted
with useful instruments
that escort me through time

I am grateful

my heart is open
to be poured into and poured out
