What is more important the heart or the kidney??
Will nephrologist and cardiologist ever agree?
What he have agreed on however are the new ESC Guidelines in the management of CVD and CKD

And there is one simple test that many people with cardiovascular disease may be missing.
It’s called a urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio — or urine ACR.
The new European guidelines recommend checking for chronic kidney disease in people with cardiovascular disease using two tests:

A blood test called eGFR, and a urine ACR.

The greater the amount of albumin in your urine, the greater your risk of cardiovascular problems.

Finding chronic kidney disease matters because there are treatments that may protect both the heart and the kidneys.

So if you have cardiovascular disease, there are two numbers worth asking about:
What is my eGFR?
And what is my urine ACR?

Never start or stop medication without speaking to your healthcare professional and follow @sarah.theheartdoc for more highlights from ESC.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported me and donated to Kidney Wales ❤️

Together, we’ve raised £585 so far, and I genuinely couldn’t have done it without your kindness and generosity.

Taking that leap from 13,000ft was something I never thought I’d have the courage to do. I faced one of my biggest fears — heights — and I did it for my amazing brother, Tyler. ❤️

Tyler has nephrotic syndrome, and the strength and courage he shows every day inspires me more than he probably realises. He’s taught me to be brave, push myself and face my fears, so this was my little way of showing him just how much he inspires me.

A massive thank you to my tandem instructor, Garth, and the whole team at UK Parachuting in Beccles. I felt so safe and confident going into my skydive ❤️🪂

Thank you to everyone who donated, shared my fundraiser, encouraged me or simply believed in me. Every donation, no matter how big or small, has made such a difference. ❤️

So here it is… me ( Tyler's Big Sister ) jumping out of a plane from 13,000ft! 😂✈️🪂

£585 and counting! ❤️

And Tyler… this one was for you. ❤️

Did you know that over 8,000 people in the UK are waiting for a life-saving transplant? Just one donor can save or transform up to 9 lives. Last week was Organ Donation Week and it can take 2 minutes to register your choice and talk to your loved ones ♥️

2 years ago today our lovely Jack (also my brother!) received a life changing kidney donation from our beautiful Mum. 2 years later life is completely different and we are so grateful!

We are always here if anyone needs a chat, or a listening ear 💫

As Organ Donation Week comes to a close, the Vindico Arena and Roath Park Lighthouse lit up pink to help shine a light on the importance of organ donation.

The week may be over, but the conversation doesn’t have to be. 💗

Did you know families are 90% more likely to consent to organ donation if their loved one has registered their decision on the NHS Organ Donor Register?
When no decision is known, that figure drops to around 50%.
Between April 2021 and March 2026, over 700 potential organ donations did not go ahead because family members didn’t know what their loved one wanted.
Because one organ donor can save multiple lives, this represents around 2,127 missed opportunities to save or improve someone’s life.
This Organ Donation Week, we’re calling on ONE MILLION PEOPLE who have never registered to confirm their organ donation decision.
It takes just 2 minutes and you could potentially save up to nine lives.
💗 Make your decision.
Register it.
Talk to your family.

🩷 ORGAN DONATION WEEK - LET’S TALK ABOUT LIVING DONATION 💕

Today we celebrate our heroes.
Six heroes who selflessly donated their ‘spare’ so our players got to write their next chapter🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿❤️

Imagine being able to give someone the chance to live their life again - while you are still here to see it. ❤️

Living organ donation is one of the most extraordinary gifts one person can give another.

Every year, more than 1,000 people in the UK become living organ donors, giving a kidney or part of their liver to a relative, friend or even someone they have never met.

For someone waiting for a transplant, a living donor can mean less time waiting, a planned transplant and the opportunity for a longer, better quality of life.
It’s an incredible act of kindness - giving a part of yourself so someone else can have more time, more memories and more life. ❤️

Living donation isn’t a decision made lightly. Donors are carefully assessed, supported and followed up, with their health always the priority.

One person. One incredible gift. One chance at a new beginning. ❤️

ORGAN DONATION WEEK - LET’S TALK KIDNEYS ❤️

Almost 8,000 people are currently waiting for a kidney transplant in the UK. And for many, the wait is getting longer - with average waiting times increasing from around 2 years to as long as 4 years😞

Sadly, every day, someone dies while waiting for a life-saving transplant.

The 10 people in this collage have something incredibly special in common. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿💕

They have all received the gift of a kidney - the gift of life from an amazing donor and their family.

Because of those selfless gifts, they haven’t just been given more time… they’ve been given the chance to live, dream, play football and represent Wales at the Transplant World Cup. ⚽🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿💕

Behind every transplant is a donor.
Behind every donor is a family.
And behind every gift is a life changed forever. ❤️

Organ donation really does save lives.

Talk to your family. Share your decision. Give someone the chance of a future. ❤️

🇬🇧 We thought we'd mark midway through Organ Donation Week as Welsh Wednesday. We wanted to share the words of some of those affected by Organ/Tissue donation in Wales - some of them are waiting, some of them have received a life-saving organ or life changing tissue.

All of them are asking for you to confirm your decision on the NHS Organ Donor Register. It takes two minutes and you could save up to nine lives.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Mae hi’n Ddydd Mercher Cymreig sy’n golygu ein bod ni hanner ffordd drwy'r Wythnos Rhoi Organau. Roedden ni’n awyddus i rannu geiriau rhai o’r bobl y mae rhoi Organau/Meinwe yn effeithio arnyn nhw yng Nghymru - mae rhai ohonyn nhw’n aros am drawsblaniad ac mae eraill wedi cael organ neu feinwe sydd wedi newid eu bywyd.

Mae pob un ohonynt yn gofyn i chi gadarnhau eich penderfyniad ar Gofrestr Rhoddwyr Organau’r GIG. Mae’n cymryd dau funud a gallech chi achub hyd at naw bywyd.
