Socialism Conference, 2026! 🌹✨️

This weekend was four days of Socialism CRAM SCHOOL and boy, have we learned a lot. Best believe we will be using a lot of the takeaways from this conference to help our own local Chapter. We were even able to meet up with some of our fellow Indiana DSA Chapters, and strengthen ties with our neighbors, as well as with chapters across the entire country.

It will take our commitment to local politics to effect change on a National level, and forming these bonds across the country will help us in the revolution, as we move forward. 💪🏾💪🏼💪🏿

We have a few copies of the itinerary for anyone interested in reviewing it! They will be available at our meetings, including our next Working Groups meeting, this Monday! We will also have a short presentation on what our members learned, as well!

#trysocialism🌹

Every seat was filled, for the opening Plenary night's speaker - Angela Davis. 🤩

Always.

@hasandpiker giving us some valuable feedback! BE BOLD, BE BRAVE!!

We LOVE words of affirmation! 🫶

Some required reading.

The line for her book signing was super long (rightfully so!!)

Angela Davis had spoken up about Karl Marx during her panel, saying we shouldn't "not" read Karl Marx because he is a white man (she gets asked this question a lot). She also said that conflict can be a GOOD thing, if we come to a resolution. We will try and find her panel discussion (and others) to share online, later!

@byp100 sang to us during the BIPOC social! 🫶🏾

So lucky to have been graced with such a wonderful performance!

We demanded an encore!! 👏🏾👏🏿👏🏼

Art is politics!!

Love a good Artivism wall!

Making zines during one of the panels. (Because, again - art IS politics)

So much learning this weekend - we are still gathering our notes!!

Scenes from the Eugene Debs table!

One of our members got to actually meet @hasandpiker!

Sporting a prototype of our FTW & NE Indiana DSA shirt, utilizing our mascot, River!

2 days, over $5,000 dollars raised, and COUNTLESS hours of people's time, labor, and energy, expended. Great JOB, everyone!! 👏👏👏

We filled up a U-Haul's worth of supplies in NE Indiana, and then a crew caravanned 3 hours across the state to deliver those goods to our neighbors in the "Region" NW Indiana. We even ended up grabbing some volunteers along the way, from @northernindianadsa, to help unload in NWI! All in all, let's just say the community CAME THROUGH!

Thank you to @ajahallh for consistently updating the status of residents in Gary and the Region area to be able to finally recieve National news coverage and hold our Institutions accountable, for going weeks without having power. We hear that she just recieved her power back, and we hope that the rest of the city of Gary will be back to normal soon.

Thank you to @hotmessnation of @thepaintedladyfw for rallying @slinginsunshine and @kimcheemoon to the cause!! So grateful for Katie Jo's years and experience of activism within this space, who has been Nourishing our Neighbors for years, and using that platform to amplify this call to action.

And a final THANK YOU so much to everyone who donated money and supplies!! The people of Gary and East Chicago were overwhelmed with the kindness and generosity recieved from their friends, family, and neighbors, here. 🫶

Solidarity, y'all!! 🌹

The last four days have been a juicy reminder of what life can look like when I am open to receiving what the universe sends my way.
•
Late last week we decided to see what we could do for our neighbors in The Region, and what came of that was over $5,000 in supplies being loaded up and shared with neighbors in need on Sunday. I got to drive up with Will to take supplies to his father and cousins who were without power.
•
Yesterday I spent time playing on the beach with some beloved homies before making my way back to town in time for the public forum about the Anchor Resource Center. What an encouraging night with loads of folks sharing their support for the downtown location.
•
Today I’m in low battery mode, resting and relaxing before I get back to it tomorrow on the farm. Grateful for all the cool humans in my life who continue to practice community care.
•
Want in on the fun? HMU with your wildest dreams and let’s make it happen!

See you Sunday at 11:30 at @thepaintedladyfw to load up the truck. Still room for a couple for helping hands to ride along if that would serve you!!

My incredible friends @slinginsunshine @kimcheemoon are working together with @thepaintedladyfw to get aid and supplies to our neighbors in East Chicago, Hammond, and Gary, Indiana who have been severely impacted by intense storms and flooding.

There are so many ways you can contribute — from donating directly to Katie Jo so she can purchase supplies from Costco, helping load and unload items, dropping off items, joining the caravan heading towards the above mentioned areas, sharing Katie Jo’s posts and spreading the word about this initiative and push. Please visit @slinginsunshine’s page for more details on how you can help!

🚨💸🚨DA REGION SUPPLY RUN🚨💸🚨
•
Together we have raised over $3000 to spend on supplies to take to East Chicago, Hammond, and Gary, Indiana.
•
We still have a little over 24 hours until the truck will be leaving Fort Wayne. Shout out @thecosmiccolorist and @bestdayeverdan for securing a giant u haul to take everything up to Da Region.
•
You can still send your dollars to me to shop for items, you can still drop items off to @thepaintedladyfw today and tomorrow (8/22 11:00-4:00 & 8/23 10:00-12:00)!
•
Looking for helping hands at Costco 8/22 around 10:30 and around the same time on 8/23 at The Painted Lady for help loading!
•
Blessings to each and every one of you who has shared, amplified, donated and helped carry this idea to fruition. Together we are better and stronger as Ty Simmons says. ❤️‍🔥☀️🫧
•
Shameless plug, joy and whimsy are pillars of this work and we will be celebrating @centerfornonviolence today at Foster Park 3:00-5:00. I will be bubbling and have bubble kits for sale. Come thru and play and get to know more of this juicy community.
