It was an inspiring afternoon hosting our annual @urbanworldff Filmmakers Luncheon at the 27th Urbanworld Film Festival. Festivals like #Urbanworld are great opportunities for the Guild to engage independent directors, build community, provide on-the-ground support & guidance to our members at film festivals and more. We heard from DGA members with projects at this year’s festival like Director @bennyboom (A Love Letter to Hip Hop) and Urbanworld leadership including Head of Programming @ms.kmcmullen . The DGA has been an official sponsor of the @urbanworldff FF in NYC for 20+ years since 2000. Congrats to our other DGA members including Directors thembibanks (Young. Wild. Free.)& @zoeymartinson (Incomplete) on having projects spotlighted during the Festival.

As some of you know I practice Nichiren Buddhism. Same as Tina Turner, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Orlando Bloom, and millions of others. I chant Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo to change myself into a better person, and become fundamentally happy. Believing that my happiness will be like a pebble in a pond that ripples outward to create world peace. The man I call my mentor, Sensei, that has strived for decades to do that and much, much, much more in order to have a more peaceful world for all of us to live in, Daisaku Ikeda, has unfortunately passed away at the age of 95. The world has lost a major crusader for world peace. It’s deeply saddening news, but also inspiring me to strive more courageously to help others become fundamentally happy and to help make the world a better place.

QC’ing our DCP of “Reunion” at the legendary Dolby Labs @dolbylabs. In an empty theater, I can hear the detail and drama of the amazing design and mix from our sound designer Zach Egan @zegan.audio. It’s also great to know all the work we did in color correction matched up 99.9 % to what we did on a calibrated LG OLED TV. While I know Dolby 88 is nothing short of ideal conditions, it’s also a benchmark to which all other theaters should aspire to. Also, being a so accurate and detailed presentation, if something’s off, chances are it’s not their fault. Your mistakes will be loud and clear. In short it sets the standard. Thanks to Dolby staff Darin Hallinan @darinhallinan and Beverley Prentice @beverleyprentice. Come see our film on the big screen over the next month at the following film fests: @urbanworldff , @reelsistersfilmfest and @centrefilm.

Had a great time paneling at Oakland’s @AfroComicCon over the weekend. The panel included @kimsonian, @sunshinesoundstudios, @kevina.tv, @geoffreygeoffrey22 and myself. I had a chance to mention my role on @krapopolis before our premiere this weekend. We were sponsored by @titmouseinc (run by our friends @shannontitmouse and @chrisprynoski).
