(Event photos post # 3): Y'all, it's been two weeks since SLC's Trans Rights Initiative Fundraiser at The Lynx, but I am still in awe of how hard this community SHOWS UP for each other. This administration has tried so hard to stop us from celebrating our identities, but they CANNOT take our pride! They can try to legislate our bodies, our identities, and our access to healthcare; they can remove our rainbow crosswalks and our LGBTQ+ books... but they will never take away our hope, our joy, and our support for one another.⠀
⠀
This community -- right here in Gainesville, Florida, where I was born and raised -- fills with me the deepest hope regarding our ability to survive these dystopian times. This beautiful community of ours never ceases to amaze me - from the local businesses that generously donated the food, drinks, and event space, to the myriad community members (colleagues, clients, friends, family members, allies, and even strangers) who showed up and donated money, time, support, and love. From the bottom of my heart...thank you.⠀
⠀
"We struggle and fight for our joy - an unreserved and unapologetic joy that springs from our ability to live as we are. It's a joy worth fighting for and it's this joy that links all of our struggles together." - Lady Phyll⠀
⠀
Now enjoy some amazing photos from the event in this multi-post series! (📷 @anthony_verdi_photography
⠀
THANK YOU TO OUR GENEROUS COMMUNITY PARTNERS - The Lynx, Kin Bar, First Magnitude, Semele Wine, Blue Highway, Top Secret Events (and special thanks to Lauren Groff, Maddie Diller, Jackie Davis, Grant Huchingson, Lexi Braun, Layla Ruffino, James and Tara Blythe, and everyone else who helped bring this event to life!). And huge thank you to Ken Thomas and the Thomas Family Fund for the generous matching $10k donation! ⠀
⠀
PS - if you weren't able to make it to the event, you can still donate to help us reach our fundraising goal of $35,000! Right now we're at almost $25k. There's still time to join the fight for trans lives! ✊ (Donate here: https://bit.ly/4nmM7uW )

"The second annual Transgender Rights Initiative fundraising event at The Lynx was a huge success, in no small part thanks to the amazing community partners whose generosity made the event possible. Thank you to the Lynx bookstore for letting us use your gorgeous event space and for all of the work that went into the event (shout out to the legendary Lauren Groff for the powerful speech); thank you to Kin Bar, First Magnitude, and Semele for donating the killer cocktails, local craft beer, and wine; thank you to Blue Highway and Top Secret Events for donating the delicious food; thank you to the Thomas Family Fund for the incredibly generous $10k matching donation; and thank you to everyone who donated their time, energy and love (shout out to Lexi Braun and Maddie Diller) to help us bring the event to life! ⠀
⠀
These community partners show up for us, so let's make sure WE show up for THEM as well! Choose to spend your money at local businesses that put their money where their mouth is and support the LGBTQ+ community (and our transgender rights work) ALL YEAR round, not just during pride month. ⠀
⠀
I feel so lucky to be a part of this community. And I am so grateful to know and to love all of you. Thank you, endlessly, for supporting our work and ensuring we can continue fighting for trans rights and trans lives in Florida."⠀
⠀
- Simone Chriss, Director of the Trans Rights Initiative⠀
⠀
P.S. - If you didn't have a chance to donate, it's not too late to help us reach our goal of $35k! https://bit.ly/4nmM7uW ⠀
⠀
Stay tuned for more pictures from the event! 📸⠀
