As some of you might know, I have another sporting obsession- ski jumping / ski flying. Those crazy people that throw themselves off mountains at 60mph+

This is my first completed painting, made at life-size scale. It features retired Norwegian jumper Bjørn Einar @romoeren , based on an original photograph by @juremakovec

Title : Jumper 5.
Medium : Acrylic on cardboard
Dimensions : 280 x 120cm

Creativity doesn’t just make beautiful things. Sometimes it puts a life back together.

Before he was known as @king.overman , Kevin was a kid who couldn’t stop drawing. That instinct led him into music, where he built a 20-year career as a DJ and producer, traveling the world and living inside sound. But years later, after thyroid cancer and a season of anxiety, exhaustion, and recovery at home with two small children, he found himself searching for something quieter.

He picked up a pencil again. Then a paintbrush. One large painting turned into another. And slowly, art became more than expression. It became balance. It became peace. It became a way back to himself.

That return gave birth to Hardwood Army, powerful, life-sized portraits that don’t just hang on walls, but hold presence in a room.

“It gave me balance. It gave me a place.”
“Art really just saved my life.”

We’re honored to share King Overman’s full story, a journey through creativity, illness, recovery, and the healing power of making.

@king.overman prints have arrived... And they're perfect. ✨ If you haven't checked out his work, do. It's incredible. How he captures the original images is really something. Can't wait to frame these and get them on the wall. 👏🏻

So long to the studio (for now) 🥲
My flat's carpet might get messy and the rent deposit might scarper but the work will keep on keeping on 💪
I'm the meantime, my current work will be snuggled safely in storage. If anybody would like to borrow, exhibit (or even buy🤷‍♂️) some of it then give me a shout- I'd much prefer it to be on your wall instead of suffacating and squished in bags of bubble wrap.

Although it was a short (and strangely speedy) time at the studio, I met and made whole heap of fine friends. Thanks for looking after me, for your wise and kind words, arty advice, inspiring info, scrumptious sandwiches and just general lovely human stuff.

Keep cool and keep creating
