NEW Japanese pop up in Old Market 📍@kinjonokitchin at @oldcastlegreen ad | invite Chef Tony is dishing out some outstanding dishes from a unit at the back of Old Castle Green pub! Expect dishes like crispy chicken karaage, yummy fried oyster and shimeji mushrooms and loaded okonomiyaki fries. Plus mains including donburi / rice bowls such poached chicken chasu don with ginger and spring onion sauce, Japanese curry and mapo tofu. & noodles dishes using the same noodles from the same guy that makes the noodles for all the best ramen restaurants and pop ups in the city @komuginoodles Keep an eye out for the Scotch Egg special which has already got people talking 👀 Everything is made from scratch from Tony - from the Japanese curry made with apples, pears, carrots and Japanese seasoning & curry powder, to the black sesame mayo and spicy and umami sauces that coat the noodles. & you can taste the quality & care he puts into everything. He also uses the highest quality meat including rare breed pork and herb fed free range chicken (which are both delicious)! 🌱 & there are veggie / vegan alternatives for everything we had including the mapo tofu, yakisoba noodles and Japanese curry. *@kinjonokitchin - Bristol* that in between Christmas and New Years meal (out) I knew I needed. We shared: 💫 Gyoza meat scotch egg 💫 Nayoga tebasaki (double fried Sichuan pepper brined chicken wings, sweet soy glaze with fermented spring onions, ginger and garlic sauce 💫 Kakiage tempura (mixed veg) with nori powder 💫 Menchi katsu kare (minced beef and pork katsu) 💫 Nasu katsu kare (aubergine katsu) Clearly a well thought-out menu (concise rather than being overly ambitious with too many dishes). Using a soy marinated egg in the scotch egg was genius and the flavours of the chicken wings were delectable. The spring onion & ginger sauce is typically paired with Cantonese style poached/steamed chicken but this also worked well. Can’t go wrong with a simple Japanese curry - easy to make at home but it’s a nice change to have this be prepared for me instead! I regret not getting the menchi katsu myself - it was like a burger patty deep fried and 10 times better. I believe this is their first pop up at Tomo No Ramen (on until 30 Dec) and I hope they make a re-appearance in 2024!
