Don’t just have the range. Create force there. A lot of people still think mobility means getting into a stretch and holding it. That can be useful. But access to a position is only one piece. If you want that range to become more usable, you need to be able to create force there, control it, and build capacity in it. That’s what we trained today. 90/90. Figure 4. Straddle. Then we added lift-offs, hinges, tension, and controlled movement. Because mobility isn’t just about getting more range. It’s about what you can actually do with the range you have. Range. Control. Strength. That’s internal strength. 👊

You need to learn this. Our joints need to explore FULL RANGE OF MOTION. I used to see people do skin the cat and I thought it was overkill. Excessive range that just puts the shoulders at risk. But learning to CONTROL my body in these ranges has made a huge difference for my joints AND strength. Skin the cat, dragon squats, deep lunges. When we perform these movements with control we take true OWNERSHIP of our movement. Does everyone need to do these? No. But gaining this capacity has made my joints more resilient and has allowed me to add muscle and strength that I would not have had otherwise. Message me about how to get started, and follow the great coaches tagged! #calisthenics #gymnastics #mobility #kinstretch #functionalrangeconditioning

HOW IS YOUR BALANCE? Balance is not something you stumble upon or wish upon. It’s something we TRAIN for. And any skill is a trainable skill. Think about it — as little children we dare each other to walk the line, to skip from rock to rock, to walk on that log. We think we’re playing, but we’re training our perception the whole time. Then as adults, that behavior is not “acceptable” anymore. We stop training our perception. And then we start making up silly stories: “I have bad balance.” “I’m too old.” Last time I checked, being old is not a sickness. It’s not an illness. It’s a blessing. Because getting older means we’re still alive. And while you’re still alive, there’s still a chance. There’s still hope. There are still opportunities to improve how you move and how you feel. So we need to get very consistent with doing our homework. With showing up for class. Training our toes, ankles, knees, hips. Putting in the reps. Next thing you know — your proprioception will be better. Your balance will be better. You will learn to trust your body again. But it won’t happen unless you start PUTTING IN THE REPS Small things are never little. Come train the little things so you can do the bigger things.

Moving better at age 50 than I did at 40, 30 or 20, having full access to my human movement, possessing the freedom in my body to do the physical activities I want to do, is not luck. The level of work, curiosity, understanding, humility, effort and consistency required. The looking beyond standard model training and scraping beneath the surface of the generic offerings available when it comes to my education and how I train my body. The willingness to grow and to shed old thinking. Being able to accept that every step I’ve made on my movement journey, has been a valid prerequisite for the next chapter, rather than regretting my past choices. All of this is what keeps me in the sauce and travelling where I want to go. It’s not luck or genetics to be on form at any age. It is a result. What am I doing in this video? I was at my local gym yesterday doing some @kinstretch online classes with @hunterfitness because I needed equipment that I didn’t have at home for some specific set ups. I didn’t lift a single weight but I worked harder than almost every other time I go to the gym. This is why I constantly hype Kinstretch as the best movement enhancement program any human could want. This is why I teach Kinstretch to anyone who wants the same level of connection with their movement and is willing to put in the work. The best way to work with me is through my JOINT LEARNING 1:1 program. A 12 or 24 week bespoke Kinstretch program, live online from anywhere in the world. I have the best teachers and I do the work required, on purpose.
