It’s been a month and a half since the first book I copy-edited was published! ✍️

Cosplaying as Cupid is a love story about cosplay, being yourself, and trying new things, with a celebration of nerd-culture and Australia.

A late SuperManila Comic Con post! I’ve accepted that sometimes (most of the time!) I can’t post in a timely manner because there’s more to life than updating social media ー but I shouldn’t let that keep me from making a little time capsule of memories that matter to me ✨

Sometimes I think back to how we started out being casual congoers and now we’re part of the program?? It’s still strange to me sometimes.

I’m always so happy and proud of him that apart from his comic book covers, he does artwork for Magic: The Gathering, which has been a huge influence on him since he was little.

A couple years back, we visited his childhood hobby shop in the US. He flipped through their MtG binders and saw some of the cards with his artworks there 🥹

Miguel doesn’t like bringing attention to himself so I kept quiet in the shop but if it were up to me I would have been like 🗣️ HEY GUESS WHAT YOU HAVE A WIZARDS OF THE COAST ARTIST RIGHT HERE HE PAINTED THOSE CARDS

Our friends came to watch our panels and everyone appreciated what a great speaker Miguel is 👏

I was part of a very fun casual panel celebrating different fandom communities, alongside Geeky Pinoy and Oliver from IPMS, hosted by @joestarscream

We shared our memorable experiences and compared and contrasted different aspects of our circles

On the screen they were showing photos of us in action within our respective communities — This one shows a photo of me as a cosplay judge at Anime Expo in LA last year with @evilted_channel and @kirileecosplay (I miss you guys and continue to be proud of you so I showed you off on the main stage of a comic con here)

🎉 Happy release day to Cosplaying as Cupid! 🎉

Hey guys did you know I totally cosplay (sometimes) and that I seriously enjoy the process? This was such a great way to find one of those creative bugs and have it tive me a firm bite. As Jacob was making plans for the prop in this, I was nodding right along, thinking of my own ideas.

Since I haven't been on the cosplay side of things for....awhile....I didn't know about @kirileeauthor writing a book until way too recently. I was so hyped to get my hands on this and decided to try for an ARC and was overjoyed to get in! This was such a positive looking at cosplay, the comp community, and it's so nice to see the culture is pretty universal. And don't think I'm not jelly of Play By Proxy. I was hyped for half a second seeing "WA" on the address when I looked it up before remembering....Australia. I wish. Dx

Kirilee has saved my butt more times than I can count as a cosplayer as well. It was great to be able to get to read her newest creative pursuit.

If you enjoy cosplaying and want a peak behind the curtain, enjoy niche hobby contemporary, or both, I'd absolutely recommend picking this up! It's cute, honestly was great to see the drama nipped so quickly (no one in the community likes that) and really got my own creative juices flowing. Hoping to nab a physical copy soon!

Proud to have been an ARC reader for this debut novel.

Centred around a fresh faced cosplayer on the scene and a grumpy experienced veteran, sparks certainly fly. We are entering a world, you can tell Kirilee has experienced in real time, from the con crunches, to the nerves on stage, to the rush of endorphins from a job well done, it has all been captured in detail.

This book made me feel seen. Kirilee doesn’t shy away from uncomfortable topics, but rather brings with a certain gravitas that can only come from experience and knowing her characters. Poppy and Jacob feel like real people that walk down the street every day, they feel like people I want to be friends with.

Also the spice at the end.. Chefs kiss Kirilee… the perfect cream on the cake if you will.

This book is filled with Fake Dating, Grumpy/Sunshine, loss, found family, and finding self-love, what more could you ask for from this novel.

Congratulations Kirilee on your debut novel, thank you for letting me be an ARC… and I can’t wait for book 2.

I absolutely loved being an arc reader for @kirileecosplay’s new novel, Cosplaying as Cupid! Be sure to check it out when it releases on August 29th, aka International Cosplay Day.

I do have one remaining question: was Brooke’s lollipop for a Jester cosplay? Because if so, new fear unlocked.
