Today I will be sharing the books I want to read before the end of the year. It's not all of them since I'm waiting on some preorders. At the moment I'm nearly done with Exit Party by Emily St John Mandel, which I hope to finish tonight.

🎾 In Your Court by Kit Haley 🎾

This story follows Matteo Russo, openly gay tennis player who struggles to be himself on the court again after a traumatic experience, and Miles Callahan, world number four, America’s sweetheart and closeted golden boy.

The story is told entirely from Matteo’s POV, so you get to experience his struggles with his trauma and how he’s treated by the press and the whole tennis world. It was wonderful to see how he slowly started being his old self again with Miles by his side.

Miles on the other hand, is treated poorly by his team and family and finally starts standing up for himself after spending more time with Mat.

I loved their development throughout the story because they were exactly the match each other needed. I also loved how Miles challenged Matteo’s decisions and pushed him to be his best.

And can we talk about how cute Miles is with his love for flowers?! Also, they BOTH read MM romance books. Like, they’re literally one of us bookies.

The banter between those two is also so sexy and funny!

I couldn’t put this book down and was so glad I had a couple of days off work to read it because I would’ve gotten nothing else done anyway.

I’m normally a fan of slow burn, but in this case, the high heat — feelings later worked perfectly because both guys had to overcome their internal struggles first.

Overall, a fun mix of banter, spice and heartfelt moments! ❤️

I finally met Kit Haley (in person) the circuit is complete!

In Your Court is so fricking good I literally made a whole dedicated post to it way back when - and I finally had a chance to hear from the awesome @kithaley.romance about writing their “heart book” AND get my copy signed (with a few extra goodies courtesy of Kit) at @romancing.the.novel last week!

The in conversation was thoughtfully moderated by @joshhortinelawriter and I really enjoyed listening to Kit’s reflections on the writing process, the love of the (tennis) game, and the behind the scenes insights into In Your Court… though I’m still yet to have an answer about the scrunchie iykyk 👀

Of course there were so many friendly faces out to celebrate In Your Court that night, including my gorgeous bestie @ccnena, the one and only @shaewinter_ and my pop culture twin @mezbookpro 💙

Well…I have just the recommendation for you!

Kit Haley is a queer author who describes himself as an obsessive tennis fan and an obsessive romance fan. And their new book ‘In Your Court’ published by Hachette Australia has successfully combined the two into one fun, steamy and spicy rivals-to-lovers story.

Kit and I had the most fabulous discussion recently about this book. A wide-ranging discussion from Pat Cash and that epic Wimbledon win in 1987, to the highs and lows of professional tennis and what it might be like to face off your lover in a singles grand slam tournament. 😅

Mange bøker for tida får klistret på en sammenligning med Heated Rivalry, men dette er den første hvor jeg faktisk føler at det er helt fortjent. Jeg vil si at In Your Court overgår Heated Rivalry på flere områder.

Australske Matteo Russo er den første og eneste åpent homofile profesjonelle tennisspilleren. En gang var han et stort juniortalent med en lysende framtid foran seg, helt til en ulykke satte karrieren på sidelinjen. Nå sliter han med å kvalifisere seg til turneringer, og vet ikke engang om han har råd til middag i kveld.

Etter å ha tapt mot den rike og arrogante amerikanske superstjernen Miles Callahan, utfordrer Mat sin gamle rival: Reis til Wimbledon på stramt budsjett, og bevis at du faktisk har fortjent suksessen din. Ingen støtteapparat. Ingen trener. Ingen luksushoteller.
Han regner ikke med at Miles kommer til å si ja.

Miles flytter inn over gangen for Mat og venninnen Katie. Han er ikke vant til å klare seg på egen hånd, og vet ikke engang hvordan en vaskemaskin fungerer. Han ser ikke ut til å ville la Mat være i fred, og ting utvikler seg raskt til en intens og hemmelig affære utenfor tennisbanen.

Jeg koste meg enormt med denne boka, og falt pladask for Matteo og Miles. Historien fortelles fra Matteo sitt POV, mens han prøver å beskytte hjertet sitt samtidig som det blir mer og mer klart at det allerede er tapt til Miles.

I can’t remember when I started to come across the teasers for their debut book, all I remember is I was hooked on the idea of the book before I even received an Arc. And once I read it? That was it for me.

And I genuinely mean this when I say I will read anything by this author going forward now

I love a good sports romance, especially when it’s tennis related as it happens to really be the only sport I have followed since I was a kid. So taking tennis and adding romance? Here for it

Matteo, the only out player in the world of tennis, is just making a comeback after an accident set him back.
With no travelling team, budgeting for each tournament, it was tough start but with an inadvertent challenge thrown his rival’s way, he found himself challenged in a way he hadn’t been in a long time. Always stuck in his head, overthinking, worrying, not performing to the best of his abilities, not since pre-accident, poor Matteo, honestly, I just wanted to give him a cuddle.

Miles had everything; money, a team and family by his side every tournament…until Matteo challenges his privilege thus leading to the two hooking up when they were suddenly in close proximity after Miles takes up his challenge.

Their relationship; hooking up from nearly very early on was a surprise considering the book was long. But it worked. Although at the start it felt repetitive; the constant hooking up for a period of time, the story picked up as it went on after some time.

There was so much to these two characters that needing unpacking; both had trouble communicating, fears leading to miscommunication, insecurities, their teams and families, there was a lot of baggage, much to work through together and as individuals and it was written so well, that I truly felt both characters emotions and was rooting for them both.
