POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

So excited to announce that Marco Antonio Guerra, our first single as Silver Birch, is out today.

Named after a particularly mysterious and intense character in Roberto Bolaño’s epic novel 2666, the riff for this tune came into my head while I was leaning out @electrobeard and @alicealicegrant’s window in Deptford High Street late one night in early 2011.

The riff felt like a cascade of bonkers merry-go-round mental ear worm neural labrinth spirals, which kind of sums up my state of mind at the time.

Well excited to bring this out into the world, and we can’t wait to play it live. Thanks so much to @sebrochford @ruthgoller @chris_sharkey_music for amazing amazing playing, Sam Hobbs aka @rebel_elements for recording and mixing this and Richard Greenan @kitrecs for so much positivity and encouragement.

Really hope you love it!

For your GRAMMY® consideration

I've been curious from the start, what kind of paths this music will walk. But I wouldn't have imagined it to end up in this orbit:

What If We Align Our Breath is officially up for your GRAMMY® consideration for Best Alternative Jazz Album. Sounding the Voice in consideration for Best Alternative Music Performance.

A huge thank you to my musical collaborators on this body of work, @kolekaputuma , voice and poetry, and @shane_cooper_sounds , co-producer and mix. To the legendary label @kitrecs . To everybody else who helped to bring this music to life. And to everybody who listened, thanks for the support!

NEXT MONTH! Happy to announce that @o.the.band will be opening for Silver Birch (Pete Wareham, Ruth Goller, Betamax, Chris Sharkey) at @mothclub on November 21st

@warehampete , @ruthgoller , @betamaxdrums , @chris_sharkey_music

Tickets on sale now via Dice

O. is baritone saxophonist Joe Henwood and drummer Tash Keary.
As Pitchfork says, “O. forge a sound as unmistakable as their name is un Googleable”
and in NME’s words “none of their predecessors come close to the guttural, visceral sounds uttered by the NME100 alumni.”
The band has supported artists including Jack White, Gilla Band, and Black midi, and their debut album with producer Dan Carey was heavily praised by the likes of DIY, Dork, NME, Rough Trade, Stereogum, Clash and MOJO.
They are working on their second album.

In 2011, the plan for genre-destroying, trail-blazing punk-jazz upsetters Acoustic Ladyland was to re-emerge under the new name Silver Birch. After several years of constant touring and playing together, Pete Wareham (tenor saxophone), Chris Sharkey (guitar), Ruth Goller (bass) and Seb Rochford (drums) recorded what they felt was the strongest album the band had ever made. The label at the time disagreed, the project was shelved, and Wareham soon moved on to form Melt Yourself Down @meltyourselfdown

15 years later, that "lost" album - High on the Western Hill — is finally being released by Kit Records @kitrecs To mark the release, a new incarnation of Silver Birch featuring Max Hallett / Betamax (The Comet Is Coming @cometcoming ) on drums will perform the music live for the first time.

The music captures the band at its most intense and exploratory: heavy grooves colliding with anthemic improvisation, mind-bending rhythmic virtuosity, extended song forms and euphoric saxophone lines. Rooted equally in post-punk energy, experimental rock and dynamic improvisation, the album now feels startlingly contemporary — a missing link between Acoustic Ladyland and the diverse compositional approaches that would later define the work of all four musicians.

We’re getting seriously excited over here in Silver Birch land.
Vinyl test pressings are in and sounding amazing, rehearsals are feeling great and people seem to be getting excited about the gigs too.
Really hope to see loads of you out in November - if there’s enough interest we might do more shows next year but so far the plan is to just do these so don’t miss ‘em!

Recorded in 2011. Played live for the first time this November.

16 NOV — Brudenell Social Club, Leeds
20 NOV — Rose Hill, Brighton
21 NOV — Moth Club, London

Tickets via the link in bio.

This was happening now it isn't (the poster) The gig still is.
You may be forgiven for thinking the like count is hidden on this post (that's a thing you can do on here you know? Not sure what purpose it serves? Maybe to hide ones embarrassment about low likes? Fuck knows? I know no shame) It isn't hidden it's just nobody likes it!
In 2011 Acoustic Ladyland planned to re-emerge under a new name: Silver Birch. Pete Wareham, Chris Sharkey, Ruth Goller and Seb Rochford recorded an album with my good friend Sam at his Rebel Elements studio in Wharfedale.
The record never saw the light of day... Until now!
It is finally being released by Kit Records, and a new incarnation of Silver Birch — featuring Max Hallett / Betamax of The Comet Is Coming on drums — will perform the music live for the first time at the Brude and elsewhere.

Poster's well nice though ain't it?

Roméo Poirier
