A cat hotel where I could leave my own cats when I needed to. That was the initial idea, but how did I get there?

Before Shangri-Paw, there were Marvin and Zelda — my first two cats, adopted back in 2016 from @kittensanctuary.sg That’s really where all of this started🐈🐈‍⬛

Not long after, I began volunteering with @luni_singapore First just with a camera (snapping adorable pics), then fostering (kittens turned our house upside down), then becoming foster manager and holding a key role. And I realised: learning by doing and research isn’t enough. So I got educated — vet nursing, animal behaviour, Fear Free certification, and hands-on time inside vet clinics — because if I was going to look after other people’s cats or advise fosterers about medical care, I wanted to back this up with facts and knowledge.
That training means at Shangri-Paw we can spot and manage medical conditions and quickly notice when something feels wrong. We also offer a dedicated plan and adjustable rooms for senior or specially abled cats, who need a different kind of care and setup altogether.

Keeping cat behaviour in mind, every single room here is a full room, not a cabin. Cats need space to move in (especially vertically), distance between their litter box and their food, and the choice to come say hello or stay curled up on their own terms. 💖

What does that actually looks like?
🫶🏼Your cat’s room is big enough that they never have to step out of it, not even for exercise or interaction — so there is no common space at all, not even shared one cat after another.
📸You get photo and video updates on WhatsApp so you always know how they are doing (or you can opt for 24/7 CCTV).
🌟Taking care of someone else’s cat is a huge responsibility, not just “fun”. The whole team is trained to think this way, apply Fear Free techniques and ensure your kitty is cared for so you have peace of mind when you cannot be with them.

From their first sniffs, to their final kisses, I will forever hold onto how bonded Meru and Ossa were ❤️‍🩹
Its been 6 weeks without Meru, and not a day has gone by where Ossa hasnt cried in the night, or been looking for him in his final resting place.

❤️‍🩹Nothing prepares you.... the day you lose one cat, you also lose the version you once knew of the buddy they left behind.

Ossa is going ok! She's finding her own new routine to life with new interests and new habits. So many of those are things she spent years watching Meru do, but never actually did herself.

Sitting in his favourite spots, playing with his toys she never once glanced at, playing fetch down the hall like he used to, meowing for the morning wake-up, appreciating a belly rub... its all new for her but somehow learned from him!

A reminder this #whiskerswednesday that nothing is quite as good as rubbing whiskers allover a fresh catnip toy... it was even worth Ossa muscle-ing in too!

New kitten? No problem right? 😼
We couldnt have been more nervous about introducing Meru and Ossa...not just because of his behavoural problems but because she was TINY compared to his 6.6kg, and being a rescue we had no idea if he had ever even befriended a cat in his little life!

Needless to say it worked out 🩷
