Lung cancer is rising in young, non-smoking women. 📈

Yet, too many young women face misdiagnosis and delays, simply because lung cancer isn’t expected in people their age.

Clair, Hayley, Harriet, Kizz, Becky, Stacy, Jade, and Emma were all diagnosed with stage 4 ALK+ lung cancer in their 20s, 30s, or early 40s.

📢 Research shows lung cancer incidence in younger women is now surpassing that of men in multiple countries (Jemal et al., NEJM, 2018).

ALK+ disproportionately affects women under the age of 50, presenting unique challenges such as delayed diagnosis and the emotional and physical toll of navigating lung cancer during some of the most active years of their lives.

This International Women’s Day, let’s make lung cancer in young, non-smoking women part of the conversation.

HUGE thanks 🙏 to Clair, Hayley, Harriet, Kizz, Becky, Stacy, Jade, and Emma for sharing their stories.

October and November dump in one because I forgot to post Octobers tehe 🤭

Not including two fabulous holidays and running a marathon during that time too because lord knows I’ve already posted enough of those - but here’s some of the in between moments with my favourite people🩷

Blessed ✨

Thinking about coming to this year’s ALK+ Lung Cancer National Conference? (26-28 Sept. London).

Here’s what it meant to Kizz last year - in her own words:

“Connecting with people who are going through similar journeys is important and doesn’t make you feel so alone.

I was so grateful to be in the company of the strongest people I know. I got to catch up with ALK+ lung cancer patients I’d met before and also met some new fresh faces.

It’s incredible how different all our journeys and experiences with the medical professionals around us can be. I’m hope for a lot of other patients and didn’t realise how many people may look up to me.

I get asked a lot: how do I do it? Working? Gym? Travel? Coping with the mental strain of my treatment? My answer is simply mindset. Positivity is a superpower, and once you have it, anything is possible.

We were blessed with talks from some of the best oncologists, and a lung clinical nurse specialist who helped us understand what to expect from our CNS.

Debra gave us an exciting update from the charity - she continues to do an amazing job.

You learn so much from others’ experiences. Being able to sit around a table with so many others is invaluable. It was lovely getting to know people and their carers beyond cancer too.

I’d encourage anyone living with ALK+ lung cancer to come to this year’s conference.”
