The Waiting Room
Snippet of a 3 minute Video Sculpture

Currently on show at @ilsansuji_official as part of the Busan Biennial, South Korea.

The video installation „The Waiting Room“ captures the disorientation of existing in limbo: an unclear situation in which one is waiting for a decision and cannot do anything. A state meant to be temporary, yet seemingly without end, where forward and backward motion feel equally impossible.

At the core of the work, the human body functions as the visualization of time, resetting itself every ninety seconds. Through this recurring gesture of repeated effort without resolution, Seelen transforms the digital medium into a moving, two-dimensional sculpture.

My work
Aspirational Optimism I exhibited at @ilsansuji_official in Busan, South Korea

So incredibly thankful for this opportunity and the careful and considerate organization by Snow Paik, Chang-an Son and everyone involved of ILSAN SUJI!

„Marie Charlotte Elsner explores how identity is performed and reflected upon within digital spaces. Using 3D fabrication techniques, she reconstructs digital images and performances within physical frameworks. By continually presenting herself within her work, she questions vulnerability, relationality and the commodification of the digital self.

Aspirational Optimism I is a relief work featuring an edited self-portrait printed in transparent PETG. The image is folded on hinges and contained within a 30×20 cm Euro container box. When the box is opened, the image unfolds into three sections.

The work takes inspiration from feminist artists who experimented with self-exposure in the early 2000s, including Laurel Nakadate and Tanja Ostojić. It questions the intimacy created through images, the authenticity of relationships on social media, and the nature of parasocial connections.

The artist’s digital self-portrait is shipped, stored, and opened like a gift inside a transport container. The work was physically mailed from Leipzig to Busan in the second half of 2026.“

Loom 幽, 2026
Cotton rope, cotton thread, metal wire, hair, glass and mirror crumbs, velvet

The monumental, serpent-like textile installation externalizes deeply buried emotions. It is an act of profound self-inspection, exposing the self to itself, a shadow taking on its own form. It is composed of recurring materials in the artist’s practice which carry shifting meanings but consistently revolve around subjectivity, trauma, and the materiality of Chinese language. Looming and haunting, it refuses to be contained within the exhibition space, silently seeping beyond the doorframe.

$Meine Diplomarbeit “The Twilight Zone” July 2026 Installation & Performance Party Tent, Stage, Furniture, Carpet, Marquee Set, Beergarden Furniture, Light and Soundsystem pt3: Perchance to Dream Installation and sculpture that sections the space into 3 different areas, using a 32m2 tent. the exterior becomes an archeological site, a film set, the intellect that watches from the outside, scans and imagines the environment. the second section creates a limbus in which visitors can take a seat on the beergarden furniture inside the tent and transition into the third space: the stage. this dream-like space shapes a timeless vacuum that follows the events of the novel and recreates an imaginary fraction of a teenage bedroom in the early 2000’s. Danke an Alle ohne die ich dieses Projekt nicht hätte stemmen können 💕$
